Which is more accurate: digital or vinyl?
Some good points above, Vertigo. The comment "More accurate, mind you, not better sounding" makes no sense, but belies the common (among audiophiles) lack of understanding of what accuracy means. Unfortunately, accuracy is seen as something that i...
Turntable speed accuracy
Jtimothya, I don't think you are serious (correct me if I'm wrong), but to elaborate on my point: a great drummer playing alone can get the juices flowing with a great groove. Now, imagine a (potentially) great melody played or sung with bad rhyth...
Turntable speed accuracy
" Musicians play things in certain keys and tempos for a reason" - AtmasphereThat's exactly right, and the point of my earlier comment. Deviation from the musicians' intent has a significant impact on the music. That's not to say that the music ca...
Mitch Singerman EAR 834p mod
Lloydc, with all due respect, what does your response have to do with the OP's question? For someone who already owns the 834P as the OP does, and likes the basic character of the unit, an additional $375 investment for mods that have received an ...
Mitch Singerman EAR 834p mod
I am a fan of this phono stage, and have used one for a few years. IMO, it sounds more like what real live music sounds like than anything else remotely in this price range. It is smooth, detailed, stages well, and most importantly (for me) is tha...
Turntable speed accuracy
How can correct turntable speed as well as excellent speed stability possibly NOT matter and be of the utmost importance? Rhythm and time is where the heart and soul of music lies. Any technical considerations that may have an effect on these are ...
Toots Thielemans
Donjr, were you able to clear up the problem with the link that I posted?Regards.
Which is more accurate: digital or vinyl?
One of the most thoughtful, and poetic attempts at answering this question appears in Peter Ledermann's answer to Neil Gader's question in a recent interview:"Aside from it's ease, warmth, and feel-good sound, it (analog) is approachable, do-able,...

What?! Have no idea why. I just clicked on it myself and it takes me to Elis Regina. Try again.
Natural, musical, dynamic phono preamp 700 used
Jeremy72, we will have to disagree on this one. IMO, you are making a mistake with the " getting on with age" concern. Think about how many classic pieces there are that are still held in high regard. I have not heard the Sim Audio, but have heard...
Natural, musical, dynamic phono preamp 700 used
Tonally accurate, musical, dynamic? EAR 834P. Have lived with this preamp (highly modified), and can tell you that it sounds (now, and pre-mods) like what you are looking for. Getting on in age? So are LP's; in the opinion of many.

I guess I would argue with the "best" statement. For "best " harmonica player designation, it would be hard to not look at Larry Adler, an amazing virtuoso. But I would certainly agree that Toots is the best Jazz harmonica player. If you like "Aqu...
Biggest impact on you?
Three components come to mind that had a huge impact not just for their sound, but also for the education that they gave me about system building:I will never forget the first time I heard the AR SP-9 in my system. It was the first time that I had...
A Good Match?
Consider the amp's sound, not just it's ability to "drive" the Hales. The Hales are terrific speakers, but they are lean sounding. You should consider an amp that will give the sound a little meat-on-the-bones. FWIW, the WhatHifi review describes ...
