Quad 57' system upgrade suggestions requested
The way I see it, you could make a significant upgrade that would cost you nothing at all: the Forsell is much more natural sounding turntable than the SOTA. I assume you have tried the Forsell. What did you not like about it?
Totem Arro vs Revel Concerta F12
Hi RW, I have no doubt a good sub would help the bass shyness; I own a Strata III that I will try at some point. I haven't yet because it's not a viable long term solution for me, as I don't want another box as part of this system in this space; s...
Totem Arro vs Revel Concerta F12
No expert here, but a couple of years ago I researched speakers for a second system and the Arro's and Revel's were on the list. I never heard the Revels, but for whatever it is worth, had formed an opinion based on reviews and comments (probably ...
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners
Welcome aboard, Mark. The HW19 is a nice platform for your ET2; that's what I had for a few years before my TNT6 and it sounded very good. If I may offer a tip: If you haven't done it yet, replacing the spring suspension with sorbothane pucks or u...
A market for DIY speakers on AudioGon ?
Like Unsound said, doesn't cost much to try; but, without a picture of your work it's hard to give a meaningful answer. Good luck.
Reasonable not to be offered a trial on a cart?
I completely agree with the above comments. Aside from the already mentioned risk of damage, a cartridge that has been loaned out would then have to be sold as a "used" item, and not a "dealer demo" thus significantly (IMO) decreasing it's value. ...
Considering Beveridge, your opinion please.
****All of this doesn't help much with advice, does it?**** I will let the OP decide, but I think this is all very good advice.****IMO, dynamic speakers today (and yesterday) can overall outperform vintage electrostats****Well, yes, kinda/sorta.**...

Dear Dover, great stuff! Thank you. I will definitely try removing the heat shrink and the Teflon insert. When I first got the magnesium wand, if memory serves, I was using a Spectral MCR which benefited from the extra mass and dampening of the ma...
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners
Well, per Bruce T's recommendation, I installed one of my two original (lower mass) aluminum arm wands in place of the magnesium wand (lighter version) that I have been using since purchasing it about twenty (!) years ago. I had been meaning to tr...
David Wilson must be a little annoyed...
****To really enjoy music you don`t have to get caught up in the merry go round chase for the temporary "best" component.Go listen to live musicians and use it as a template to recognize and appreciate natural sound. You`ll be happy and spend far ...
Is it possible to have an accurate speaker
Well, if you want an easy answer you can take the many different, and opposing, opinions that you will surely get in response to your question (I like Mapman's, btw) and try to find some kind of concensus or distillation. Or, if you want a truly m...
Fremer lays an Ostrich egg...
Excellent!
My amp has no faults
****save for the fact it's not 100% convincing?****Is that not a fault? Please explain.
Fremer lays an Ostrich egg...
****He'll never be able to listen to those amps again without thinking there might actually be something wrong with them. ****And THAT dear fellow audioholics is the basic problem: We listen to equipment, and not the music.
Cheapo TT's for a present
I agree with Viridian. I can't speak to the Pioneer, but I bought my son an sl-220 a couple of years ago, and while I can't say it comes close to sounding like my TNT6, it sounds surprisingly good. With a $60 AT cart and $100 Cambridge phono secti...
