Coltrane
"meditations" is a great album; takes a little more patience perhaps. but i wasable to get into it - really into it- right away for some reason.
Coltrane
a giant step as well for many rock and roll fans into jazz was J.Coltrane's wonderful spiritual style, which was (and remains) so fresh and truly "modern" as well ashistoric. And the next thing you know, you're listening to Monk, Miles, Parker, et...
What audio components are heirloom quality?
IMO a well preserved LP (ex. Blue Note, Columbia 6-eye, Mercury, etc.) of a great recording is a work of art- the cover design, the notes on the back, etc.it's so satisfying to look at and read the cover information while getting into tbetracks. A...

Burned out Audiophile - Trying to Find some Zen

What is your DESERT ISLAND amp & speaker combo?
a "desert" island or simply a deserted island? big difference. i want a cool shaded lagoon with a waterfall, fruit-laden plants, a plentiful variety of fish and game, beautiful mountains with breathtaking overlooks, rare birds and insects, flowers ...
B&W D1 vs D2 Diamond D1 vs Diamond D2
WELL I WISH... B&W would re-introduce a speaker like the Matrix-800 with a woofer on top and on the bottom, with the mids and tweets in the middle.Use the current tech advances but make a true flagship (again). the last reference system was "t...
Burned out Audiophile - Trying to Find some Zen
The time i enjoyed the music the most (and therefore listening to an electronic device the most) was when i was challenging myself to try playing the piano better every week. although i never got good enough to play Bach and Mozart, the mere ATTEM...
so many choices, yet so little to demo
TWO speakers is one thing, but you want FIVE that sound good in your room to your ears. on movies AND Beethoven. sorry but i can't help you (but good luck in your search...).
Linda Ronstadt can't sing anymore.
STEM CELL RESEARCH COULD BENEFIT people like L.R. but eight years of foot dragging certainly didn't help much. I would like to see radical new treatments IN MY LIFETIME if at all possible- and NOT just for singers but for thousands of folks afflic...
Tube vs. SS Dilemma
Stick with the speakers you like (especially for your room) and decide what ampcomplements their character. If you go to the YOUTUBE GREEK AUDIOPHILE SOCIETY video there is a guy who has been through over a dozen amps (mostly tubes) which i think ...
Hegel h200 low level listening
The only knock I can offer on the Hegel as well as ANY integrated amplifier that lacks tape (line level) output jacks is that i insist on this feature. i don't think it is too much to ask and yet the Pass INT's lack these outputs as well as a host...
B&W matrix 801 s2 still a relavant speaker.
I drove my pair with a levinson 23.5 amp (200w/ch) with wonderful sound.the midrange driver (kevlar) is still very relevant, and the bass extension, esp.with an alignment filter, is still difficult to top, although the bass driver lags a bit behin...
Experiencing Rowland M925 4-chassis reference amps
Mr. G, maybe i misunderstood, but you said you were listening to Mahler through the tuner...? and you stated you enjoyed the experience. But anyway,i am trying to figure out if a Sansui tuner would be sufficient, or do i need a truly great compone...
A/D/S M15 Speakers
OTOH I acquired a pair of L-1590-Mk.2 in ROSEWOOD and they looked incredibly nice. i meticulously straightened any bent parts of the metal grills until they looked almost brand new, waxed them up, etc. they put out wonderful bass from the twin 10 ...
