Vandie .7 vs Maggie .7
3rd call out for John Rutan at Audio Connection. They're both good choices.  The 2 is even better, if you can get a recent-ish used pair. (I honestly prefer it to the 3, while acknowledging the latter is less colored) I love the dipole presentation...
Is there any danger in leaving a class D amp on unattended for ten days?
My 3116 chip amp hasn't been off since I set the system up, but it's probably more prudent to turn everything off if you're going to be away.
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
When I worked in QA they told us "You can't fix what you can't measure."So start by getting the Real Time Analyzer app for your smart phone and do some measurements.  My recent listening rooms have been on the small side with lots of plaster/sheet...
vintage coral speakers
"Corn type" = cone, AFAIK.  Coral has a cult following among vintage buffs, so good luck with your project.
I'm wondering if I can fit this in my house
"We'll MAKE it fit."
Upgrade path from Wilson WattPuppy 7s? - seeking advice
If you really want scientific precision you should audition at least one pair of electrostats (and not hybrids).  Quads would be a good start.
Spend more money on the amp or the pre-amp?
Agree with those who say "integrated" and add a further wrinkle:The more efficient and sensitive your speakers are, the better a cheap amp is going to sound.  People with K-horns report great results from TPA3116 chip amp boards (which have volume...
Why is modern pop music today so terrible?
It's creatively exhausted.  Pop music today has the same problem "classical" music faced at the end of the 19th century: there's a very finite number of chords and chord progressions that sound "right" to the human ear, and we've used them up.If t...
Eggleston Works Andra II speakers as forever speakers.
The Andra midrange is run almost full range, which is going to make them very room and setup dependent.  The one time I heard them I wasn't impressed, but like the Rosas quite a lot.  If it works for you, I could imagine being strongly devoted to it.
Eminent Technology LFT-8b in Harry's system
I'd love to try a pair, but I'm absolutely a bottom feeder, audio wise.  (Retired, on a fixed income).  There just aren't enough used ones out there.
Tekton Double Impacts
They're dynamic as heck, and reasonably uncolored given that they're pro audio drivers with paper cones.  They move serious amounts of air, and don't need tons of power to do it.That said, if I liked the Maggie sound I (and I do!) I don't think I ...
Floorstanding towers
I second the Vandersteen recommendation.  Would also suggest Magnepan (Several new or used models in your price range), or a used pair of Quad ESLs, either the 57 or 63 (and its later derivatives).  Dipoles do really nice things vis-a-vis room int...
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
I’ll also go with Quad ESL 57s. As long as you pay attention you won’t arc a panel - the sound starts getting "hard" sounding - as any speaker does when you overdrive it - long before damage happens.
Best speakers under $500? Fire away!
The NAD 3020 is only 20 watts, but has a really stiff power supply.  It ... might ... be OK with Elacs.  I'd definitely have the soft clipping feature turned on, though.
I've decided to try Tubes
Here's another vote for Quicksilver.  Any of their monoblocks will work ... you might even try the horn monos with  your very efficient speakers.  They're as uncolored as solid state, but with all the palpability and liquidity that makes tubes spe...
