Hyperion 938 or Defenitive Technology Mythos ST?? I never heard any Hyperion speakers but did own the ST. I've been through quite a few speakers over the last 5 years. It's a crap shoot when you change speakers. It may or may not be to your liking. In other words an unknown. Be smart, go with the...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Rebbi, I concur with Mapman that you would do well to consider a tube preamp. VTL is one to look at. If one becomes available, a VTL 2.5 will be under $1k. Tubes have added a naturalness and "realness" to instruments in the jazz I listen to.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? It's difficult to compare the Walsh 5000's and Blue Circle solid state integrated with the 5000's and the McCormack DNA-500/ VTL preamp. The tube VTL preamp makes a difference in the presentation of the 5000 speakers. There is a new depth to the s...
Is it best to isolate?? You must decide if you like what various isolation devices will do to the sound of your system. Many say its best to isolate and I do use isolation, but I'm still not sure whether the difference they make is audible or a positive difference.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Mapman, the DNA-500 is finally working out well. It would appear on paper that the 500 paired with the Walsh 5000 speakers would be an easy slam dunk. But we know that what's on paper is meaningless. I have still had to do plenty of experimentatio...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? I find the treble on my Walsh 5000's to be clean, resolved and extended. But it will all depend on what's going on upstream. My expereience with the Walsh drivers has been that the highs can sound recessed if gear upstream does not match well and ...
Simaudio Supernova vs Oracle CD 1500 MK II Be smart, stay in the Sim family.
This is a silly hobby. Your're right Danlib1. I plan to do that.
This is a silly hobby. I agree with you Grimace and disagree with Viridian and Danlib1. It's easy to justify the exorbitant amount spent on audio gear by using other excessive hobbies as examples. Those hobbies have the potential for absurdity as easily as this one. Bes...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Rebbi, if you can wait for one to come up as they seem to, the VTL 2.5 is a preamp that's inexpensive used. I recently purchased one and mine is very quiet and has that tube sound with a dimensional quality.
Supertweeters - please advice which one I would completely agree with Mechans. I tried the ERT Supertweeter from AV123 which is relatively inexpensive and was recommended to me by another member. While it was additive in the upper range it was also subtractive. It took away the balance ...
Have you turned your loved ones into audiophiles My 6 year old is too young, my wife could care less about anything "audiophile," but she stays out of my buying so that's great. My best friend who is like a brother just says "what'd you buy now?" He thinks I keep buying because I'll never be sat...
CABLES I purchased one of their power cords but returned it. It didn't do anything special in my setup. At least their company has a return policy. YMMV
Class D amps, bang for your buck ones I third Wyred 4 Sound.
Integrated as preamp? Rar1 is giving you excellent advice. Maverick18, I too would advise doing the same. You said:To my ear, Thiels sound great with this little 50W@8 ohm amp. |
