What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes? @billpete Thanks for the advice for "Tea for the Tillerman". I am actually in the market for a better copy of the album. I had been considering Analog Productions 200g remaster. But they were a limited edition. And are now quite expensive. I curr...
What are your go to LP's for evaluating new gear or new tubes? The overture of The Who's Tommy. Japanese pressing. Mostly for Townsend's acoustic guitar work and Moon's drums. Who's Next, Japanese pressing: Behind Blue Eyes. For the vocals and Townsend's Electric guitar. Court and Spark 1980 Nautilus half...
Specific SUT with unusual case scenario question from a LOMC N00b I am a huge fan of SUTs. I agree with mulveling's first suggestion. Forget about using the PL100's MC stage. Go through an SUT into the MM section. I know that you spent a bunch of money upgrading the MC tubes and don't want them to go to waste. H...
Movie/film suggestions. In the comedy category. "This is Spinal Tap" is as funny as it gets. And the pioneer of the "Mocumentary" genre.
Movie/film suggestions. I agree with so many that have been mentioned. One more vote for "The Lives of Others". A brilliant movie! As far as acting is concerned. No one can top Elizabeth Taylor's transformation into a pathetic, codependent, alcoholic in "Who's Afraid of...
Pick A Tube Phono Preamp, but not just any Tube Phono Preamp Manley Chinook uses FETs for the MC step-up portion. As many "tube" phono preamps do. Unless they use SUTs. The MM section is tube. So for LOMC the Manley is essentially a hybrid. However, be aware. If you use Soundsmith low output moving iron car...
Favorite Album Cover (picture or art on the cover) It is the 'Andy Warhol real zipper cover/ title of the album', combination, that launches 'Sticky Fingers' over the top. Very few could resist unzipping that zipper with their sticky little fingers to have a peek inside. That is why it is rare to ...
Does anyone have experience matching an Icon PS1 MKII with a Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC Star? Another update. Icon finally responded today. I said that I would post the response. So here it is. Just to put things in prospective, I am going to post my question also. David at Icon had said that it was strange that there was no mention of SU...
Does anyone have experience matching an Icon PS1 MKII with a Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC Star? Thanks Antinn! I will definitely check into it. It would be nice to have it refurbished. It is a good preamp. Much like the design of the Manley Chinook but without the loading resistors and capacitors being installed into dip switches. There are ...
Does anyone have experience matching an Icon PS1 MKII with a Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC Star? An update. I take back what I said about Soundsmith. Peter Lebermann quickly responded. He said that he would supply me with a stand alone SUT for the Zephyr MIMC for a very reasonable price of $500. I have taken him up on his offer. So that prob...
Does anyone have experience matching an Icon PS1 MKII with a Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC Star? Icon has yet to respond to my question as to how they calculate a 100Ω load. I ask them if they were using a RC across one or both ends. It seems as if they are ignoring the question. After sending Soundsmith the specs of the PS1 MKII. And descri...
Does anyone have experience matching an Icon PS1 MKII with a Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC Star? Thank you Antin for the Soundsmith link. I could not find it. That is reasurring. I have been in contact with Icon. They made the comment that transformers are largely self adjusting. I also asked them for a schematic of the MC input. They are t... |
