Montana EPX opinions?
I demo'ed some used Montana's & thought they sounded incredible. Realistic & punchy, a very natural presentation. Unfortunately for me they were a little too small for my needs so I had to pass on them.I don't think there is much press on ...
Speakers to Mate with McCormack?
I had a pair of Vandy's with a DNA-1, I foolishly thought the Kestral HR's might be better suited to my room based on the size. There was no comparison, the Vandy's blew away the Kestral's in the bottom end & sounded better overall. Fortunatel...
Exposed to tubes?
Yes, I have to run adapters to the BAT. I am waiting for my new pre-amp (Audible L2) but that will be single ended as well so I either have to continue use of the adapters or find some cables for RCA to XLR. I still don't think this will be as eff...
Best Inexpensive DAC
I have a Benchmark DAC-1 & like it alot. It beats out my Phillips 963SA for sound quality & can be used as passive digital pre-amp with your amp because it has a vollume control. Plus it has a decent headphone amp, for the price I find it ...
Battle of the BAT's, VK-60 vs. VK-220
D'OH, I pulled the trigger on the VK-60 today. I couldn't resist with the fact that I can return it if I had to. Something tells me I'm going to REALLY like tubes & my wife is not going to like the look of the "new" amp ;)
Are Zaolla Cables worthy of your home theate????
I had a set in my field recording rig & found the quality was poor. When I removed the XLR connector I found bare exposed wire instead of the usual sealed shrink wrap solder joint. I was imediatly dissapointed as I feel even the cheapest of mo...
Dirtball A/D conversion.
I have a Tascam DA-20MKII & it sounds horrible. A cheap CD player sounds better. Some Panasonic DAT's have an excellent analog stage (i.e. 3700, 3800) but they are not cheap to purchase. I wouldn't waste my time personally.

The upgrade path is a nice option, what do the upgrades usually run?
Tube Cage for a Cary Rocket 88
Not to go too far off topic but I can recall seeing some clear plexi covers for tube amps to keep the tubes free of dust & dirt, does anyone know where these came from?Jax, do the metal cages get hot/warm as well during playback?
Anybody hear the Von Schweikert VR-4jr at CES?
I think I am going to try a digital amp with mine. Bel Canto, PS Audio or Spectron. I listened to mine "briefly" the other night & oh boy did they sound good. I won't have a chance to hear them again until Thursday.
Just got my new VR4jr's
Special thanks to Jonathan @ Chambers Audio, he is THE MAN! He has been the best experience I have ever had in the audio world, extremely friendly & knowledgeable. A stand up guy, thanks again.
Anybody hear the Von Schweikert VR-4jr at CES?
I have a pair on order as well & heard they pushed the date back, mid-march for delivery? I hope not, I can't wait to hear them.
Cables for Bryston 4B SST and Linbrook Monitors?
Ty uses DH Labs in his speakers, I would try those. I have some DH Labs cable in my Tyler system, they sound excellent.
Zaolla Silverline cables, compairsons, choices?
I own some Zaolla balanced IC's for my field taping rig. They are OK at best, there is no heatshrink over the exposed wire where they solder to the terminal. A cable in this price range & class should have the wires sealed at the terminal, I w...
Too Bright Big Blue Meters : Re: McIntosh MA6900
I cover my bright LED's on ADC with a washcloth when I am listening, doesn't look pretty but mute's the intense light.
