Have you ever hated the sound of your system one day, and loved it the next?
Any chance our systems sound better on nice sunny days because less people are in their homes sucking power from the grid?  More unrestrained clean power getting into your system?   Could be systems sound better late at night or early mornings whe...
Notable very small loudspeaker companies (other than Tekton!)
Prana Fidelity sounded good at Axpona- very real world prices.Volti Audio- nice classic horn look and sound.+1 for Vinnie Rossi- unbelievable sound and excellent customer service.

I had WP 8 for a couple years.  Set up was CRITICAL, when they say every 1/2" counts they mean it.  I also found that I needed "mellow" equipment and cables to counter the dynamic, forward presentation.  They could be considered bright with b...
Magico A3
I heard the A3 at Axpona and didn't find them to be anything special outside of build quality.  Their sound did not set them apart from the many other speakers in the price range, in fact there are many others that I prefer.  I am a S5 Mk1 owner.F...
Best standalone music server?
Heres a new guy question:  Can my sonos play Hi Res (above CD bit rate) if it goes into an upsampling dac?  Seems that it would be limited by the sonos, but what if it has modifications that allow 24/96, or DSD, or MQA?Chromecast looks interesting...
Best standalone music server?
I already have a preamp and dac.  Just looking for a great sounding, easy to use streamer.  CD ripping is a +, but I have a CD player so it is not entirely necessary.  Most streamers have volume knobs=equals extra noise=lower sound quality (I coul...
Best standalone music server?
Anyone try the Wyred 4 Sound Music Server?  Looks well built, appears to be up to date tech wise.  A bit $$$ though.

theothergregI had Mac C2500 preamp and I loved the sound. I assume the C1100 is sublime.  If all of the glowing lights on the C2500 were defeatable it would have stayed in my system.  I thought it looked really cool with the green tubes visible on...

theothergreg- Thanks for the recommendation.  The Nemo is a beast. From Stereophile 2000:The discrete clipping measurements (1% THD+noise, 1kHz) indicated a power output of 757W (28.8dBW) into 8 ohms, and 1145W (27.6dBW) into 4 ohms (the power lin...

Elizabeth, that definitely causes me to lean toward the H30.  Looks like I missed a couple that were recently for sale. One left that I see.  I would have to sell what I have...but I had a really enjoyable listening session last night with my exis...

I received an email from Hegel regarding the H30 ability to drive 4 ohm speakers.  His reply is they push about 2000 watts into 4ohm when used as a monoblocks.  Hi Rob   Thanks for your email.   In 4 ohms about 2000watts.     Med vennlig hil...

Thank you Richards, awesome response from someone with  experience with the h30. I sent hegel an email about its 4ohm rating as a mono, no answer yet after 2 days.  im trying to avoid using a stereo amp as it would require new cables and selling m...

Soix, I felt the Levinson gear had very good synergy.  I found the 512, 326s and 436 have excellent detail, and transparency, but ultimately lacked some soundstage, depth, drive and musical presentation.  I went with Vinnie Rossi's LIO as a preamp...

Thanks Jafant, I am VERY happy with the 512.  It is the piece I continue to build around.  The 436 are excellent as well, but they are getting a little older and I am curious if newer designs will have a better sound-same articulation, more depth,...
