Amp/ preamp for electostatics and why I have a full-range Acoustat system, and I have both the VK-30 and VK-42se preamps from BAT. I can't comment much on amps because I use Acoustat direct drive amps. I will say that when I drove my Acoustats through interfaces and a conventional amp...
Warmish SS pre:Rowland Synergy IIi preamp/others? I'm a long-time tube guy, but recently tried the BAT VK42se in my system on a whim. It is an excellent piece, and definitely not thin sounding. Vocals are very present and full sounding, and instruments within the stage are well defined and have e...
Acoustat, 121-2a can they be cut down Autospec, I find it best to remove all staples on both ends of the speaker and slide the sock off without turning it inside out. You'll find that Acoustat appearantly paid their sock staplers by the staple - there are a billion of 'em! If you are ...
Acoustat, 121-2a can they be cut down The two's are the hardest model to place, but I've heard them sound very, very good. In fact, my first Acoustat listening experience was with Model 2s in a room that was about 14 by 22. They were powered with a Crown Macro Reference. There were no...
Acoustat, 121-2a can they be cut down Agreed with Samujohn, you may want to just find the model that fits your room best and sell off the 2+2s, especially if you can do both locally.Plato, in my experience the Monitor 4s can actually sound downright magical in the right room. I've dis...
Acoustat, 121-2a can they be cut down To add to Mofimadness' post, you can easily transform these into a pair of Model two's as you suggest by removing the panels and cutting the frame down. I would suggest two things:1) Cut the frames to about 60" tall and re-mount two panels in each...
Cartridge Recommendations for my Lp12 I am about to change out my Lyra Dorian for an Akiva. I'll post back with my findings, but I can say this... I like the Dorian quite a bit more than the Linn Arkiv it replaced. That may not be a fair comparison, though... because the Arkiv had a l...
amp noise with Quad 909-help needed I wish I could be of help here, but I don't have any ideas. I can tell you that my two 909s have always been dead quiet, and I've had them in systems raging from home theater to complex two channel systems. I would suggest either returning it or t...
Information on Acoustat 2plus2 speaker upgrades. I'd start by upgrading the capacitors in the signal path. The electrolytics they used from the factory were really bad. Follow that with some wiring and connector upgrades and you have a great sounding speaker! Shoot me a line if you'd like more d...
Quad 12L at low volume The actives sound great at low volume. I listen to Pandora.com through my computer and Hagerman USB DAC straight into the actives. When I'm sitting at the computer I have the volume down quite a bit. Compared to my 22l/909 amp combination, the 12L...
Upgraded fuses in Acoustat 2 + 2's A agree with Mracoustat. The fuses are if anything to protect the amps... and most amps have some sort of thermal regulation or fusing anyhow. It would be very difficult to damage an Acoustat speaker... as long as you have the bias supplies plugge...
quad 22L vs totem arro Sorry, I haven't heard the Totem. I do own the 22L and I really like it. I'm actually looking for a second pair for another room. They have an immense soundstage and really are quite extended. I usually need some kind of sub with smaller speaker li...
Does the Linn 'green paper' seem questionable? No worries, guys... I don't listen anywhere near that often. Probably only 2-3 hours per week. Even though it sounds fine I'm sure it is on it's last leg. I have two LP12s, and the main rig just got a new Lyra Dorian installed. I'm using the same ...
Does the Linn 'green paper' seem questionable? I've always used it or a small strip of 1500-2000 grit sandpaper. Works great. I give it a swipe after every album side. Still using my 15 year old Linn Arkiv, so the sandpaper method hasn't harmed anything in my case.
Best Speaker for Wall Placement? Classical1, yes, I should have mentioned price. It will be my second system, so I'd like to keep the price below $2k. Right now I'm digging the idea of Cornwalls, but the Walla speakers that Jrinkerptdnet describes sound cool... albeit probably ou... |
