Help me decide on first turntable purchase
@ wturkey Save some coin and try a U-Turn.This is great advice and I tell everyone that asks me the same thing. I did this when I got started. I wasn't certain if I would enjoy playing albums again. I got a basic U-Turn and I quickly learned I...
The "Snake Oil" Trope
@adasdad When reading about different people’s experiences in hi-fi and somebody screams snake oil, I just look upon it as comic relief and nothing more.I agree with you 100%. I think this is a very healthy approach to the "snake oil" patrol.   C...
The "Snake Oil" Trope
I used to be in the camp that believes that cables shouldn't matter to how my system sounds. A friend of mine convinced me to borrow a set of cables from the Cable Company to see if I could hear a difference between the Blue Jeans cable I was (pas...
Dual SVS PB-1000 Pro versus Dual Rythmik LV12F- does Servo Technology Matter.
I will be more concrete in stating my budget when posting on Audiogon.  Just because you can spend $5000 or whatever on subwoofers doesn’t mean most people can.  The median US income is a bit over $60k a year.  After food, clothing, shelter, insur...
Dual SVS PB-1000 Pro versus Dual Rythmik LV12F- does Servo Technology Matter.

I was at this stage about 6 months ago. I had a system that was nice, but wasn't at the level I really wanted. I had been saving up for the last few years to purchase some components that would be a substantial jump in performance over what I was ...
Learning to Listen: Neurological Evidence
@hilde45 At some odds with your very valid point is that there are musicians who often don’t have very good systems or care very much about sound quality in audio systems. That may merely be because they just don’t care about audio quality sound -...
Learning to Listen: Neurological Evidence
I am rather new to this forum, but I honestly don’t understand why this topic seems to be so controversial. If you have ever learned to play an instrument, learned to read music, learned how to sing in a choir, learned how to harmonize with other ...
What do "audiophiles" use to judge equipment?
Interesting question. I’ve had this very discussion with a coworker who is primarily equipment specification driven. He favors components with better specifications and measurements over sound. His system sounds really good, but it’s not a sound q...
