Will DAC always sound better going straight into a Power Amplifier?
Ok, can you all recommend me some good vintage or 90's solid state preamps that could pair well with modern DACs like the Musetec 005 or Holo Audio May?  I want to do a vintage solid state preamp for now because i should be able to find it cheaper...
Will skinny-leg diode restrict amperage compared to fat-leg bridge rectifier?
@imhififan there is no fuse that blow at start-up.  I am just exploring amplifier performance enhancements, at the expense of amplifier safety, by bypassing the 7 low amperage internal fuses.  Personal safety (e.g. house burning down) is not compr...
Will skinny-leg diode restrict amperage compared to fat-leg bridge rectifier?
@erik_squires good point, thanks!  looks like I will now go ahead with my plan!
Will skinny-leg diode restrict amperage compared to fat-leg bridge rectifier?
Yes, and i'm actually going to replace 7 low amperage fuses with solid copper rods.  The two main higher amperage fuses i will replace with aliexpress Aucharm fuses...with a rating of 1amp higher than what was taken out...just to get the size of t...
Is there a solid fuse-like item that I can use in place of a fuse, to bypass it?
I agree that bypassing a fuse takes a step towards unsafety, so i will keep the two main 7A fuses in place. But for the other seven small amperage fuses...I’ve bought a few 6mm dia. copper rods from aliexpress and aim to whip up some small copper ...
Chinese Cables that sound good
@roxy54 , if possible, can you let us know the length, and then use a multimeter and test the capacitance, then resistance of a single length, and then report back?
Is there a solid fuse-like item that I can use in place of a fuse, to bypass it?
In the animated GIF someone posted earlier in this thread (included below for convenience)...do you see how much the filament is resonating?! Yikes! Now I can see why companies are filling the fuse canisters with sand/epoxy/oil or whatever, its t...
Is there a solid fuse-like item that I can use in place of a fuse, to bypass it?
It appears the amplifier i’m using has two 7A fuses accessible from the outside, and 5 or 6 lower amperage fuses on a PCB in the amps power supply. In a potential sound-enhancing compromise, I can replace 5-6 lower amperage fuses with solid coppe...
Is there a solid fuse-like item that I can use in place of a fuse, to bypass it?
In the event of a surge, will transistors within the amplifier not get fried anyhow?  thereby acting like fuses anyway?   Do power amplifier fuses ever blow while leaving transistors unharmed?
is the 1990s "WIDE MODE" setting the 'soundstage' of today, and a gimmick?
Electronic gimmickry like that is fine on less expensive gear, like a a boom box. But it is a detriment on higher end gear.  Yes but i wonder if any current high end gear is secretly implementing these tricks?  Throw in a couple of capacitors/r...
Chinese Cables that sound good
The main hesitation I have with aliexpress cables is the OCC copper and low capacitance cable claims. Some vendors are showing you cross sections/assembly views of the cables and buyers can see, for example, if conductors are soldered vs friction...
Is a cheaper DAC + Reclocker better than just an expensive DAC?
Ahhh, this is good down-to-earth and realistic advice everyone, thanks. Not what i wanted to hear but what i needed to hear.  Looks like there's no shortcuts or cheats on this one. I'm steaming from a windows laptop (just added my basic system to...
Is the Cyberpower Pure Sine AC regenerator a good buy?
Ok after a lot of research, it appears that Pure Sine Wave Battery back-up units only output the pure sine wave when not plugged-in.  The problem here is you need big a$$ batteries to power your rig for a reasonable amount of time. If plugged in,...
Is the Cyberpower Pure Sine AC regenerator a good buy?
Hi @fuzztone yes you're right it for sure does not have enough power to keep a hifi rig running for long...but my plan was to keep it plugged into the wall, so that it is continuously generating its Pure AC sinewave. Would the corresponding hifi ...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend
@verdantaudio  I currently have Bryston Mini-T speakers (with Yamaha PC2002 power amp) and was thinking of moving towards a fully Bryston system...but came across your post commenting about microdynamics. Based on your experience, it it worth pu...
