The Disappearing Act
OP asks if the disappearing happens uniformly -- with all recordings. For me, definitely not. Only with a few LPs and a with a few CDs. In my experience, most recordings and subsequent transfers to media suck; probably because of weak technology,...
Room is way too bright.
Dense drapes.  Ask your sig o. to choose color. (This is not hard.)
Doozy of an amp question
Not sure of the orientation here. "my speakers are Dalis" reads like, "my car is Ford" -- Is it a Fiesta or a GT? Knowing only "ARC REF 10 and Dali", an ARC amplifier would pair with the ARC 10, but who knows the rest.
Ugliest Component of the Year 2024!
Agreed, Lalitk, The Frankenstein look of the MCD85 is, IMO, unbeatable in this little contest of yours. It is (obviously?) a reference to the MC2100, which I owned for some years, but never appreciated for beauty. It sat on a bottom shelf, largel...
Friends hi-fi system not very good, what do you do or say?
Here's something that may be hard to consider: Chances are fair enough that each of us has had either a same component, or one that was similar in brand/quality to one the host has. "Oh, I had a similar one of those xxx, back in college. It was gr...
The Great DAC Mystery
@OP et alia: Passband ripple is an often-cited property of power amplifiers. How do the (calculated) amounts of passband ripple in considered DACs compare to those of the amplifier(s) in your system?
???What's The LEAST Expensive "End Game"Amplifier You've Ever Heard???
"END GAME" ???   The phrase seems to be paradoxical to the interests of people on this forum. Either I do not understand what the words are intended to mean, or another term is needed for what this is. Maybe "Holy Grail" is closer to the truth.
Power cord upgrade
NONBELIEVERS:  Hear me. I'm an EE since 1980. I would never fall for this noise people emit about cables making any difference -- audible or measurable. In the 80s and 90s I worked designing custom integrated circuits at a couple of the big-name ...
Grounding an Integrated Amplifer
Confusion comes from the one word, "ground". The word, "ground" is used in different ways. That alone causes confusion and pain in the HiFi universe. SAFETY ground is the third pin on the AC power plug. It is intended to prevent an electrical fir...
Help needed with new integrated amp.
"Any amp with flat FR will sound much the same." -- Really? Blisshifi's explanation of speaker impedance and amplifier damping factor -- both intertwined functions of frequency -- agrees with analysis and my experience.
Aliexpress Marketplace practices, be for warned.
"...counterfeit and fake Chinese junk?", you ask? This morning CNN carries the dogs-painted-as-pandas story. Markets of appearance over substance, it would seem.
Klipsch La Scala or Altec 838 speakers
My daily drivers were various incantations of VOTs for maybe 30 years. Towards the end of that time, I started trying numerous "mid fi" speakers. None had the LF smoothness, many had lower frequency extension, but -- most noticably -- many were le...
High-Power DC power supply upgrade for NAIM amp?
I've yet to find the amplifier, source, or processor that could not benefit from a higher-current, lower impedance, lower-noise power supply.
Deals Gone Bad
I can't imagine that so many Agoners would trust these junk on-line "marketplaces". With such large amounts of money. Overseas. WITHOUT AUDITIONING before purchase? I really don't get it.
What is the lowest voltage acceptable ?
Robert53, Three things come to mind. First, in published measurements made on high-powered amplifiers, some testing lab mains sag and do not provide sufficiently high voltage and power to supply the amplifier with 120 VAC. Krell tests comes to mi...
