Recommendations for retipping service for my Benz-Micro?
Thanks so much to you all for the great coaching on retipping. There are apparently services that will retip but only with the replacing of the cantilever. It sounds like replacing the cantilever is not a requirement with Soundsmith's retipping se...
Anyone familiar with Buggtussel Amygdala speakers and what their worth?
Thanks so much mitch2 for your thoughtful reply. Apparently they were originally $4300 in maple. I leaning toward likely selling them on Audiogon for around $1650, but concerned that no one will be familiar with them.
RCA Shorting Plugs vs Caps non-shorting ?
Thanks so much for the responses guys. To be clear: Rello your suggesting that shorting plugs be put only on Inputs and on no Outputs. So "Tape In" would take a shorting plug, but "Tape Out" can only take a non-shorting Cardas cap, same for a secon...
What to upgrade first for better sound quality?
Did a little web surfing, but do you have a $6000 Mac MA6600 with a $3800 VPI Prime table all driven by a $700 Ortofon cartridge? Ivor Teifenbrun taught us all decades ago that the balance of system investment must lean towards the front end, the ...
CJ PV-2ar or PV-7 or ARC SP-6 for Klipsch Heresy?
Raymonda these are all substantive recommendations and worth my pursuit at my "fling" stage with the Heresy's. One mod you mention is the first I considered immediately upon opening them up, replacing the "zip chord" internal wiring. Curious that ...
CJ PV-2ar or PV-7 or ARC SP-6 for Klipsch Heresy?
I agree with Atmashere about "noise floor". With my Tube Technologies CD driving the Heathkit AA 151 into the Klipsch Heresy 1's, it is dead silent between cuts.
CJ PV-2ar or PV-7 or ARC SP-6 for Klipsch Heresy?
For now I intend to use my custom 7591/6sn7, fixed-bias, push-pull amp which uses a Pilot 410 input and phase inverter circuit built on a stripped Heathkit AA100 chassis retaining the great transformers. With this venture into high-efficiency horn...
CJ PV-2ar or PV-7 or ARC SP-6 for Klipsch Heresy?
Thanks so much guys, hooked up a near mint, unmolested Heathkit AA 151 integrated. I set the tone controls strictly by ear. I'm a musician so my sense was that was the only way. With null at 12:00 o'clock, Treble ended up at 9:30 (!) and Bass at 2...
Need help fixing a Linn Axis
The guru of LP12 and AXIS circuit board rebuild is Stan Zeiden at Shelleys Stereo in LA. He does more than repair but upgrades the circuit. He rebuilt my AXIS board and upgraded the fragile 400V rectifier to 1000V 1.5A. He gets LP12 and AXIS board...
MM Phono Input impedance change 47k to 100k ohms
Thanks to both Al and Mofimadness, really appreciate the response and will stick with 47k ohms. Incidently the Grace F9Ruby seems to mate very well with the Herbies Most Excellent mat
Impedance matching 8ohm speakers to 4ohm sub
You guys are great. Thanks for the responses. It might have been easier to assess had the REL specs listed the input impedance of the High Level input which Almarg rightly suggests would be around 100k ohms. Just didn't think of that. And Arh I ha...
REL subwofer High Level vs Low Level connection
Thanks so much to Stanwal and Bdgregory for favoring HighLevel as I have heard that REL recommends it over Low Level input. Thanks especially to Almarg for your detailed analysis of impedance matching. I'm a Cornell EE and get it.
Reel to Reel decks
Here's what I think is happening in my case with the "copy" sounding better, through headphones at least. My TASCAM deck at 15ips is flat to 23Khz and with 3m/996 tape, has a 9db Headroom. Cutting out the room, the speakers, the speaker cables, th...
Reel to Reel decks
I recently picked up a near-mint TASCAM 42B, (2-Track, 15ips) from a local church having been inspired by the CES reports of "Best Sound at the Show" at the Tape Project room as well as the amazing j-corder and the United Audio sites. I made a 15i...
Need Reel to Reel Tape Primer Sources
There's a lot out there, here's just a couple for example.http://www.digitalprosound.com/Htm/TechStuff/2000/Aug/AnalogTape.htmhttp://www.tangible-technology.com/tape/baking1.html
