this unit? https://schroederamplification.com/products/bryston-sp3-surround-preamplifier Looking at the rear jacks, there are two tape loops, one analog and one digital. It has to be selectable, and other settings are involved to get to 2 channe...

Tape (or processor) Loop, you go out to your deck or processor, and back to Tape IN. On older Preamps, there is a 'Monitor' or some similarly named switch that selects the tape loop input (doesn't matter what your source selector is using, it cuts...
Annoying trend? New vinyl equalization and compression
My friends and I often look over at each other while listening and say "these guys knew what they were doing" (meaning the engineers recording skills).  Perhaps better mastering to retain dynamic range was/is part of it, never thought about that....
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
Well, 40 years ago, Bob Carver's Cube was Class D wasn't it? https://www.hifinews.com/content/carver-m-400-cube My friend Wayne at Harvey's let me know one was coming out of the shop to the used shelf. Like many purchases from that shelf, I di...
saec 407/23 headshell compatability
Have you tried a wooden headshell? Probably not the problem, just to know: Ortofon cartridge wires are slightly different diameters at each end Ortofon SH-4 headshell and Ortofon cartridges’ terminal PINs diameter is 1.2 mm, whilst Ortofon heads...
saec 407/23 headshell compatability
I've never seen your arm/ceramic head. Curiously, this photo shows a separate soldered wire from edge of headshell fitting to screw of the lifter. Never saw that before either.

Cable management....crossing at right angles or
Crossing this way or that cannot improve anything, it might eliminate a problem. Theory is one thing, are you having any problems? If so, I would find the errant interconnect cable. My cables have been this way and that, including many parallel ...
Unreal Reel to Reel 'Tourbillon' by custom art designer Metaxas of Metaxas and Sins
There is something to be said for liking something every time you see/approach it, it helps you make a choice of essentially equally performing items. Just knowing my vintage preamp’s performance is enough to get my endorphins going. IF you like ...
Need recommendations for a stereo EQ
Do you have a tape loop or processor loop? That’s the best way to have optional use of something, compare the changes. You need to keep the volume equal for comparison, perhaps a piece of tape with pencil marks. Then I would start with an inexpen...
Does an upgrade make sense?
"I’m quite happy with what I have" NOOOOOO, buy more content, a better coffee maker, wine cooler, better wine, other worthless life improving gizmos! If you visit a friend, and come home every time thinking, his system is much better than mine, ...
Room Too Dead
If you had vintage speakers, they would have brilliance (tweeters) and presence (mid driver) level controls, adjustments would perk the frequencies to your liking. They were made because they might end up in a live room, or a dead room, and your p...
Which to keep! Pick one of these two soeakers
New speakers, new equipment, bi-amp, only 1 sub with Spendors, what a circle of confusion. 1. change only 1 thing at a time. Listen to your most involving music on your existing system. 2. Change speakers only. More or less involving? Speaker ...
Where do I go from here?
What fun to re-discover your prior equipment. What size room are you going to use them in? Speaker Concerns, (I never heard them) Found this about your speakers https://worldradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Audio/Archive-Stereo-Review-IDX/IDX/80s/HiFi...
If you were serious about sound you would...
Personally, those speakers are overpriced, and UGLY, I would never waant them in any space, no matter how good they sound. You can get great sounding speakers for far less $, selecting by cost is ..........
