Thiel with "Warmest" Midrange? 2.7 vs 3.7 vs Older
I've had quite a lot of experience with Thiels and tubes , for what it's worth. Firstly , 2.4s with an ARC REf 110 , currently 3.7's with an ARC REF 150.the 3.7s love power but they also LOVE tubes ( IMO). I've read descriptions of Thiels being pi...
Great Saxophone Artists and Albums
While most of the recommendations here are great , they mostly pertain to "jazz".Something a bit different is the work that Jan Garbarek has done with the Hilliard Ensemble.Really different and really quite cool- a glacial sax tone interweaving ov...
Bach Unaccompanied Violin Sonatas-Johanna Martzy
Briefly ( at a work computer) , Testment has reissued some of these on CD.Can't recall CD number at the moment but I'll check when I get home tonight. The quality is of Testament usual standards , i.e very very good.I have both the Coup d'archet re...
Oracle MK VI upgrade
Hi Gmorris , I sent the subchassis back to Oracle- they drilled the holes in the underside of the chassis for three small threaded screws ( the lock nuts and the Delrin plunger attach to these). The silicon "pots" attached to the granite base by wa...
Oracle MK VI upgrade
I've just done it -spent 4 hours in the weekend installing the upgrades. I'm in New Zealand so all the upgrades got shipped to me here-I have to say that Jacques at Oracle was a pleasure to deal with.( already had the Turbo power supply).Slightly ...
Using Test LP - curious observations
LAst year , I had similar urges to check my set up with a test record.I got my panties well and truely in a bunch.Ended up ringing my dealer in desperation. His words "Bloody test discs , hate the things" . He came over , re-set things the way the...

Differences between Dynavector P75 MKI and MKII?
The MK 2 is laid out a little differently internally ; it is easier to change the jumper settings ; it will also suit a slightly wider range of carts than Mk 1.Sonically there is little to choose between the 2. Maybe the MK2 is slightly more refin...
ARC Phono - Which one should I get? Ref or PH7
ARC is about to release a " Ref 2" phono stage with adjustable gain ( for both SE and balanced outputs). This may well answer the theoretical issues Kurt tank raises.I agree in part with him but the PH7 does work with LOMC . This depends in part o...
Who is your favorite jazz pianist
There are some absolutely stunning pianists listed here ( my personal all time favs are Art Tatum then Bill EVans.) I'll just add another name to the mix ( apolpgies if I've missed it in the thread) - Bill Charlap. I don't think he's yet in the ab...
Well-Tempered Golf Ball?
There are some very funny answers here but I don't see any comment from anyone who has heard one.I've heard an Amadeus at length , ( many hours , several different carts and electronics).I'm not an owner or affiliated in any way with Well Tempered...
Great Cello music Part 2
Not sure if this is what you're after or not but Anja Lechner ( of the Rosamunde Quartet) has put out 2 albums with Vassilis Tsabropoulos ( piano) of music that certainly fits the genre you're after."Chants,Hymns and Dances" ( ECM New Series 1888)...
SME 345
To Skand,I have the Oracle DelphiV and an SME 345. You may wish to consider the Dynavector line. I am currently running a Te Kaitora Rua but have heard all the Dyna carts in my system and think they are a very very good match.IMO of course.
What is the best Dynavector MC cartridge - why?
I've owned every Dynavector cart since I re-entered the vinyl world a few years ago.In terms of absolute performance , the XV-1-S is " the best", although it is quite difficult to make blanket statements like that IMO. The 2 carts in the Dyna line...
ARC Pre + which SS amp?
Plinius and ARC seem to go well together.I have run both a Ls 16 and a ref 3 with a Plinius SA 100 mark 3 ( balanced) and have been pretty happy with both.
