The Black Keys: Where to Start I"m not sure about Chulaloma, seeing as it's a later album. But I've emailed them about their mastering, and most if not all of their work was mastered digitally. Using simple methods as well... I think a Mac and pro-tools in a basement..Not reall...
Newbie needs advice for upgrade. If you like PSBs, try some Energy RC-10s. They may not be especially "refined" but they have a full sound, very good bass, easy to drive (8 ohms, 88db), and forgiving of equipment. ..... and they are CHEAP. You'd probably be able to get them for $...
The Black Keys: Where to Start I 2nd the Chulaloma suggestion. I just started listening to them as well and especially like the more "blues" influenced stuff. The two albums I constantly listen to are:"Chulaloma: Songs of Junior Kimbrough" ... and "Magic Potion" (check out the ...
Best "dark side of the moon" For a change of pace. This may be blasphemy to some... but Easy Star All Star's (think they're out of Britain).. does the entire DSOTM in dub.Appropriately called: "Dub Side of The Moon".. hahahaThey also re-do Radiohead's "OK Computer"Both come i...
Totem Arros and 40 watts. Hmmm... maybe I'll have to try Totem's 8 ohm offerings. I just like the look of the Arros.. and had a set of mites a while back and think totem's will do well with some of the Chinese tube amps..I think the sttafs are 8 ohms and might be cheaper.t...
Out of these 4 speakers, which 2 should I try out? I haven't heard the other speakers but I like my RC-10s as well. Like the above poster mentioned, it would likely sound very good with the music you listen to and the receiver/amp you're using. It gives a very full well rounded sound, and lots of b...
Best internet radio I see your point. Although I pretty much leave my laptop, or my desktop when I had one, on 24/7. And with iTunes, they are already preset and categorized by genre so there are 100s of stations for all tastes. So with literally 3 taps of my trackpa...
Best internet radio Why don't you just get an Airport Express and attach it to some powered speakers (like AudioEngines.. or whatever) and stream from your computer. It would be like $400 tops, and if you wanted you could always get an inexpensive DAC for under a cou...
Best internet radio Internet radio.. or satellite radio (like Sirius). I know nothing about satellite radio, but iTunes has internet radio stations. I like "Radio Paradise" myself. I think the best you can get is 128 kbps streams. I use an Airport Express linked to m...
Anyone drive gear from Canada to US? I was just at the Point Roberts/Tswwassen (Vancouver) border. I asked the US border patrol officer the same question. According to him, you have to go into the office and declare it. There is a $10 or $11 charge. If the good is produced in either ...

OK to have power amps powered w/o spkrs.? Mccormack DNA .05 Rev.A Monarchy SM70 prosBoth solid state. I'd turn off the amp when connecting/switching speakers and preamp.Emailed SMC, they said it shouldn't be a problem.Off topic, but they also encouraged leaving it on 24/7 for best sound.P...
OK to have power amps powered w/o spkrs.? Thanks Stanwal... I think I've answered my own question. I guess that's what the "search" function in forums is for...From what I gleaned off the thread, it's a NO DON'T DO IT... Although, I"m not sure it applies if I do not have a signal (source)...
New record=Bad Sound Good album. I never noticed the mids being hot, I'll have to listen again. I liked "Ragin Full On" a lot more. Strange though, I've never had a problem with SST records. I've always thought they were really well recorded for an indie label.
Need to downgrade any advice?? I'd keep the Onix and monitors. Sell the squeezebox and use the Mac/Airport express and buy a DAC when the time comes. Self powered speakers are still going to cost you at least $300, and you wouldn't be happy. The only experience with downgrading... |
