Is this enough power?
You will get about 102db max continuous. Add in dynamic peaks and you won't be listing to anything loud. At moderate volumes it should work.
Preamp Volume Question
I really doubt that your volume is that linear, there's too many other factors involved. The amp's output won't be that straightforward either. You won't find a person here who can state that at 1/2 volume, they are getting 50% of the power output...
Which monitors for my tube system in a large room?
I'm a Coincident lover (own 3 sets). However, not around little ones. Your awesome little one will be learning to walk soon. Pulling themselves up on any object, including wobbly speakers on stands. Also, with no grill covers on Coincidents little...
tube recommendation please
RCA 12AU7A clear tops with side getters. You won't need another pair for many years to come. For less money, consider Philips JAN 12au7a.
tube integrated amplifier recommendation with usb
There's a Peachtree listed here today. That's the best USB integrated you will find in that price range.
Budget receiver/integrated amp for Cornwall III's?
You are going to need to borrow one if you can to see if 10-20 watts is good for you. It was more than enough on my Cornwalls. $400 is a tight budget but for $500 there's a ton of choices for an integrated tube.I do have a 7 watt Monacor for about...
Budget receiver/integrated amp for Cornwall III's?
Jack-no vintage Carver, please. You will get tons of bass, no details and it will sound flat but very loud. For vintage integrated or receivers, sansui or marantz if you want solid state.
Are these speakers fully compatible?
How I look at wattage. Continuous power, not peak.I always considered peak to be bull anyway. The really good amps with great transformers could produce 3db extra on peaks and the lesser amps got 1.5 or so db gain. However, crap amps kept boasting ...
need an A/V amp for my thiel CS 2
Anthem is always a great buy for the money. At 200 watts for under $1000, how can you go wrong? For a little more, I really like a 200wpc Sunfire. With the Thiels, I would keep the power up there. 100wpc probably won't cut it, even with a mac or B...
need an A/V amp for my thiel CS 2
What Mds said: Do you need an AV receiver or just a power amp? How many channels? Even though 5-6 ohms is doable for most AV amps, if you are running a center and rears, Yamaha and some others need 6 ohm minimum for multiple channels.
Are these speakers fully compatible?
For quiet listening it will be fine. Going to 90db won't get much of an increase. 87db to 90db will double the power but it takes 10db to double the perceived volume. I'd look at 93db or better if you want to "rock".Currently I have a 7 watt amp t...
ear care
Marakanetz, no I've never removed it. All I know is that in the Pittsburgh area too many folks died from working with it. Now it's a really nasty job wearing a sealed suit in a negative pressure environment and we have it everywhere.Saygrr, a frie...
Budget receiver/integrated amp for Cornwall III's?
Vintage tube receivers, definitely. 10-20 watts of EL84 power will sound wonderful. Scott, Fisher, Heath, Mac, Lafayette, Dynaco and many more. I've got a 7 watts Monacor for way under your budget that will sound amazing. And YES, I used to own Co...
Hard of Hearing Headphones for TV
I got dad TV Ears. He's thrilled. He can't believe how quiet he can listen to headphones because it's so clear without any background noise. Mom is thrilled too. Thanks folks for your help.
newbie making first amp choice
Class A amps such as the Music Hall Mambo may work for you. They are warmer than some of the others.
