TRIP TO TORONTO. WHAT TO DO... Bixi bike rentals: Ride all around U of T and hit a couple of museums. You can even ride through China Town. The other place I love is Kensington Market. Buy anything-cheap. My favorite restaurant is Grilled Cheese in Kensington Market.Coincident ...
Need a recommendation on an interim power amp The Heresy's will run on 5-10 watts nicely. Pick up a class T amp? Part-express has them for $40-100. What part of the country are you in? Maybe another member will lend you their back up amp?
I don't like the sound of my system. Help please. When was the last time the CJ was serviced? That piece alone can have endless variables that affect the sound...
Poor sound from rental Blu-Ray discs I just had a friend over who works in the film industry in LA. He confirmed that we are NOT getting everything from many rentals (ie Netflix). You will see/hear a difference when comparing a rental to a full store bought blueray. However, he was i...
Should I upgrade home theatre to one with HDMI? Simple solution:HDMI to TV and toslink from the TV to your receiver. Your tv should have digital out.
Speaker choice: impedance, sensitivity, and tubes for 88db speakers at 8 ohms:1 watt = 88db2 watts = 91db4 watts = 94db8 watt = 97db and so on doubling your wattage to gain 3db.For every 10db, you will hear a perceived doubling in wattage.91db rated speakers should put out 3db more at the same vo...
OK - recommendations on cpu speakers passive I ended up with single driver speakers for my PC set-up. For some reason, multi driver speakers just don't sound right at 4-5 feet. Little 4 or 5 inch drivers are great, non-fatiguing (I can listen 6-8 hours a day) and bass is not an issue. There i...
Older is better - D/A chip? That old magnavox is famous for modding. The transport is almost impossible to replace. Mod squad and others loved it 20 years ago.
Intermittent bass The weight on the cartridge could be the culprit. Too lihht may rob you of bass. It will show more on loud passages and possibly certain points on the album due to tracking.
Multichanneled amp question? As long as no signal is going into the unused channels. This actually cut the strain on the power supply.
Need advice on bi-amping You really need to match the center to the right and left. Keep in mind that for theater the center does most of the work. Also, doubling the wattage will only gain you 3db. My suggestion-biamp the mains and see if it makes a difference. Use the 5...
White Van Speakers ? Been on craigslist lately? 2000 retail on sale for 300. It makes me sick that people fall for it. Nice shiney cabinets and lots of drivers...
is there a way to tighten pins in tube sockets? The hum and unstable bias just might be due to poor contacts on the pins. Bend them a little if you can, then get some contact cleaner and clean the pins and sockets. Put the tubes back in and you may not need to send these to VAC???
EL 34 Amp Recommendations The Cary V-12 is unreal-but that's a lot of tubes... |
