Whole House Surge Absorber.
I had one installed next to my 200 amp box for about $400. This will stop big hits BUT, I do say BUT, some charge will still get through before it trips. It almost never trips even if surge protectors around the house do go (they are more sensitiv...
Turntable on suspended floor - shelf or braces?
Don't get Mike Holmes started on that one...Really though, if FF is so bad it is most likely going to muck up your bass as well.A decent carpenter should be able to take a lot of the bounce out of the floor without much effort. You could either "t...
Set-Up Advice for Vandersteen 1Cs
check out peachtree idecco. Hybrid tube pre/power/dac.
Smoke contaminated component
Hydrogen peroxide can melt/deform plastic part, beware...I'd use windex.
4 speakers, 2 channel amp
I wouldn't do it. You will get considerable drops in impedance that could be catastrophic. You can get an impedance matching transformer that will allow for multiple pairs of speakers without jeopardizing the amp.My opinion-the speakers don't soun...
Care to recommend a preamp?
Emotive-not to be confused with emotiva
oppo's volume control
I tried this with my 103. This is a digital volume. I ran it into my Mac 7106. Transparent-Yes. The sound was better through a preamp. An analogue volume sounded better and most preamps have some gain which can make a tremendous difference.
Emotiva USP 1 verse Rotel RC 990 995 or B&k PT 3
What's your budget? Other gear?
DQ-20i Bass/amplification
The foam needs to loosen up a little. Play these for 100 hours or so, then re-evaluate.
Arcam CD17 or Oppo BDP 103?
If CD only, why waste money on a DVD? However, the 103 will play flash drives, portable hard drives and even stream from your PC. Quite a flexible unit with a nice remote and great customer service too.
New to digital high-end, need help
Personally, I like analogue volume controls much better than digital. I usually leave the digital set at 90-95% and make all adjustments with the pre-amp. Keep in mind that most pre-amps or integrated amps have some gain with the volume which can ...
Using high powered amp at low volumes power
You could switch preamps. A passive pre with no gain would help. However, you really only need 10-25 watts as Tom said. My nearfield amp is a whopping 12 watts and I doubt I ever use more than 2-3 watts.
Will ARC VT50 45wpc tube amp drive B&W Matrix 805?
It should sound great. However, it depends on how loud they want to go...B&W's are relatively efficient but won't complain with more power.
Are HDMI cables hot swapable?
I would turn off my amp regardless
300B or EL34 is a better well rounded amplifier
That all depends on your system and your tastes...and the individual amp. The only comment I am sure on is that most EL34 amps have more power than most 300B amps.
