CJ preamps?
Thanks BR, I thought he meant the CJ CA-200. I use a passive now myself that utilizes a good Vishay resistor ladder like the better CJ preamps. The PV-14 is the cheapest one CJ made with that volume control. It could be purchased with or without a...
Turntable Distortion
We repaired B&O and I often saw the old cartridges suffer from internal dry rot on the rubber that supports the stylus. The MMC 4 was the lower end cart the MMC 1 the highest.Has anyone looked at the stylus under a microscope? It could be dama...
CJ preamps?
Stay away from the PV-10 , try a PV-14, they usually go for around your price. The CA 200 is usually $3-4K and not a preamp. Its basically an integrated with a passive linestage. You're not getting it for $400. Go to CJ's website, they have info o...
NAD classic power amps good, great or mediocre
I took a 2200PE and remove the horrible hard wired stock power cord and connected a good power cable to the transformer primary. I plugged it into and used the Monster Powers switched outlet as the on/off switch. That really improved things. Still...
Polk SDA Speaker info needed...
The plug is a Cinch or Jones plug. Radio Shack had them (cat#274-001) or they are online. You need the two conductor version as they have them in 2,4,6,8,10 and so on. Then just solder two conductor (speaker) wire to each of the connectors and plu...
Help: DSOTM Sounds better on CD than LP
Most times a CDP will beat an LP for soundstage/image from left to right anyway. Separation is much better on a CDP than a phono cart. However a phono set up properly should be it in every other way except maybe dynamic range and then theres not a...
McCormack Audio/Conrad Johnson service is great
Yes Ed does a great job at CJ, the whole staff is laid back and easy to deal with on about anything. ET

Kirksaeter Prisma Speakers
I liked the Silverlines more for sure. I met Mr K when I was a dealer. Those little Silverline 60's were really something! ET
Any opinions on John McLaughlins last album?
I love him but his last few albums haven't done much for me. The latest one to do so was The Promise. What has really bothered me is the shitty keyboard sound on these last few albums. ET
Amp warmer with Vandy 3s from Vandy 2s
I sold both used and think its more the sound of each speaker. This is evident at low listening levels where both speaker use less than 10 watts and is independent of the loads presented by the speakers. Also the 3's are more efficient giving 88 vs...
What footer best under cd player
Something with a ball that allows movement in all directions. Like Herbies ball and cup.
PS Audio p 600 or the New Premier series Better
The older ones are balanced, the new ones are not. I like the older ones but the new ones handle more current. My philosophy is use an older 300/600 etc and connect devices that load the unit to only 1/2 its potential for dynamic headroom. I reall...
car amplifier question 2 or 4 ?

cdp soundstage
While I prefer the tonality of vinyl over digital, a CDP has better separation than a phono cartridge. My vinyl rig had better sounding vocals and HF but my CDP was always a bit more dynamic and had a bigger and better image. I take it you are com...
