Are passive preamps better? Interconnects are very important w/passives. Especially where HF is concerned. Keep them as short as possible. In my system however it sounds fine at low volume. In fact I find the HF better at lower volume. This could be due to the extra headroom...

Curious if anyones using numerous Richard Gray 400 Not so much from the Oyaide Outlet strip. Don't get me wrong, The MT-UB w/2 R-1's inside helped. But not near as much as Al Sekala's (Audio Asylum) parallel filter. It consists of three cap/resistor combos in parallel. The first is a .47 X-rated s...
Are passive preamps better? The old TAP by Bent with its lighting was beautiful and had a remote. I always wanted one. My Tivista CDP w/ its blue feet would have looked great with it! ET
Anyone got a "Best of" jazz CDs for 2007? Is a neat album for the progressive/experimental crowd. A trio consisting of Gary Willis , Kirk Covington who were the original Tribal Tech rythmn section with Spain's Llibert Fortuny on sax. He is really unique and creative. He has as many sounds...
Curious if anyones using numerous Richard Gray 400 I did put one Oyaide R-1 in the Gray and it helped. However in doing so I saw the fairly cheesy wire used and don't want to plug my big power amps into it anymore. I just ordered another R-1 and the Oyaide MT-BU empty outlet strip(you put your own...
Are passive preamps better? A passive linestasge (not preamp, it does not amplify) is very system dependant. You need high oputput, low impedance sources(my CDP is 2.5VRMS@50 ohms) and high impedance, sensative amplifiers. My CJ solid state amps fit that bill. I'm even able ...
Differences in electric outlets I've tried several as a dealer and nothing comes close. This was a last frontier for me. I wish I had done it sooner. I replaced a cryo'ed Hubbell and was stunned. It's worth the money IMO. R-1's are about $125 cryo'ed. ET
Curious if anyones using numerous Richard Gray 400 Since its a parallel device you don't need to plug anything into it. Once it is plugged into an outlet anything else that's plugged into that same outlet gets the benefit. I was told by a Gray rep that a 600 has an impedance of 12 ohms and he reco...
Do Kimber KCAG's sound bright???? With that combo of amp/pre almost anything coming out of it will sound bright. You need a warm cable not a silver cable like the KCAG. I'm sorry but I don't have any suggestions on warm cables. ET
10 best jazz SACD's ?? Both "Yo Miles" SACD's are must haves. They are native DSD recordings and I have heard nothing better. I have plenty of reissued old Miles recordings and like them but they don't hold a candle to new native DSD recordings. ET
For best CD playback is SACD needed? I have a good CD/SACD player (Trivista) and they key is how few SACD's are released as you mentioned. I have plenty of good redbook CD's that sound better than almost all of my SACD's. It goes back to the recording itself and how well it was done ...
What Volume do you listen at? I would have thought it had been done. Of course this is a joke paying homage to Spinal Tap. ET
Linear Tracking Turn Table Not Tracking Check all the physical stuff first: lubed gears, clean sensor contacts. You can also put a volt meter on the motor that moves the arm and verify when it receives voltage-hopefully the motor goes when that happens. If it does and the problem is it ... |
