Anyone going Phantom Center Channel? Another point..Although I am a strong advocate of having a center speaker identical to the mains, this reflects my music listening. For movies there is some advantage in a center speaker with limited and/or shaped frequency response which makes sp...
Anyone going Phantom Center Channel? Lance_s...With the Maggie (or any line array speaker) on its side, the dispersion is all wrong.
Anyone going Phantom Center Channel? Lance_s...Laying a Maggie on its side is a no-no! When I ordered my three Maggies, and the dealer explained that I would be using one for a center channel the manufacturer threw a fit until it was clearly stated that it would be in the upright pos...
Just how big is that driver? Unsound...The world is metric...except for the USA and Fiji
MC phono stage without transformer? The PS Audio PS II outboard preamp that I bought about 1980 is spec'd (and measured) with RIAA within 0.1 dB. So I guess that's not such a big deal. It uses a passive equalization network.
Just how big is that driver? I just happen to have a NHT 1259 "12" Woofer on hand.Overall dimension..310mm which is 12.24 inchesMounting hole......281mm which is 11.06 inchesCone diameter.........................9 inches
Anyone going Phantom Center Channel? On the other hand...there is a school of thought that 2-channel material is improved by using a derived center channel. I belong to that school, and have belonged since before multichannel was invented. But I refer to music. Where video is involved...
Noisier Outer Edges? The stylus doesn't know about rpm: only about inches per second of vinyl passing by. Obviously the vinyl moves faster for the outer grooves, and this may aggrevate surface noise. Ah, but you say...45 rps disks are quiet. I think that's because 45s...
Just how big is that driver? Size of the hole cutout in the enclosure.
MC phono stage without transformer? Sirspeedy...The label-specific equalization curves varied by several dB and the inflection frequencies were also different. Of course you could hear a big difference.Raul is promoting 0.1 dB or better. Not the same thing.
Halcyonics under my tt. Wow I think I am the one who suggested, some years ago on this site, that the Halcyonics table would outperform all the various vibration damping devices sold to audiophiles. My experience with it was in my work where we were using a pool of mercury a...
MC phono stage without transformer? Raul...Slightly off topic, but what is the reason that you put such great importance in exact RIAA equalization. There are no loudspeakers which have the kind of frequency response which you claim is essential. How accurate are the RIAA networks t...
MC phono stage without transformer? Rauliruegas...My experience suggests that, at an "affordable" price point a step-up transformer makes sense. It permitted me to try out a MC cartridge without the expense of a new preamp, and the MC cartridge did make a significant sonic improveme...
MC phono stage without transformer? Rauliruegas...The Signet transformer I once used was spec'd (to the best of my memory) flat from 5Hz to 100,000 Hz. I always wondered how they did this, but I certainly heard no bandwidth limitation.Because the signal is so tiny saturation is not ...
MC phono stage without transformer? Is it any surprise that Atmasphere dislikes MC phono step-up TRANSFORMERS!!!! But the problems which plague power output transformers hardly exist for tiny signal transformers. Purists will dislike having an extra device in the signal path, but an... |
