Living Stereo SACD's are a comin
I ordered several. It will be interesting to compare the 3-channel mix, which we never had before, with the stereo.
Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Jane Monheit....?
Eva Cassidy, who tragically died so young. Acclaimed in Europe, and nearly unknown here.
Freezer Cryoed Cables...
The fact that the freezer works just as well as liquid nitrogen for Rpatrick, tends to support my belief that it's all in your head.
Ten Percent Distortion?
Twl....Maybe it's because I've been around so long that distortion is of interest to me. When I started out, harmonic and IM distortion in even the best amps were both over one percent. Technical improvements have made numbers on the order of a fe...
Side speakers?
I still think that the best 6-channel setup for audio is the 2+2+2 scheme from Europe. High and Low Fronts, and two in the rear. No LFE channel is needed. If you want a subwoofer (or two, or three) get an electronic crossover and drive the SW from...
Ten Percent Distortion?
Actually, I think that "10 percent distortion" would turn off even the most nonaudiophillic people. Everyone knows what "distortion" means, but plenty of audiophiles don't understand watts.
DVD-A recording titles to die for
As Jeffreybehr commented, 2-channel can probably be made your default through the Setup process. My Denon player, and perhaps others, let's you change this setting (but only for SACD) by a front panel button.
Speaker Cables - Optimal Length
Formerly respected engineers.
Side speakers?
Slappy...If the 6th channel, LFE, is being used for rear ambience, how do they do the exploding cars? All this stuff is very poorly explained.
Speaker Cables - Optimal Length
12 inches, with each speaker driven by its own amp. The money you save on speaker wire will buy the second amp.
Side speakers?
I think that there really are just 5 discrete channels, 6 counting the LFE. The rears are matrix-derived from the surrounds. Is this correct?
DVD-A recording titles to die for
Mrlabguy...Why do you NEED to navigate menus when you play a DVD-A? I know you CAN do that if you are in the mood to experiment, but most of the time I just hit the PLAY button like any other recording. Others have made the same complaint, and I d...
Adding subwoofer to Full-Ragne Speakers question
Take the speaker grill off, and play a record with lots of bass, best of all an LP with a bit of a warp, and watch the antics of the woofer cone. I think you will agree that it is a wonder that the poor woofer reproduces midrange at all. Also, some...
DVD-A recording titles to die for
Lej1447...Lately I have not bought any discs as I do not have time to listen to the ones I have. I have both SACD and DVD-A, and a well-engineered disc of either kind outperforms CD. Almost all my discs are classical. A couple of exceptions are AI...
I want to upgrade to a bi-amp setup.
Don't bother using two amps unless you also use an electronic crossover.
