Leave tube amp on all day?
Some tube equipment has a mode where only the filiaments are left energized, perhaps at slightly reduced voltage. It is always desirable to turn on filiaments before gradually bringing up plate voltage, but I don't know any audio amps that are thi...
Can a high end sound from mid-level gear?
Spatial effects are quite separate from sonic fidelity, and can be produced with lousy-sounding equipment. My first experience with stereo was simultaneous AM and FM broadcasts on WQXR New York using commonplace "table" radios. Lousy fidelity, but...
Is balanced necessarily better?
Serus..."Twice the signal and twice the noise" is more accurate than "Twice the signal (period)" which is the common misconception that I wanted to correct. Complementary circuitry will reject common mode noise on the signal and distortion, for ex...
Channel Islands D-200 or Ayre V-5Xe???
I own five CIA D200 (because the first three were so good). Denjo's observations about the D200 are accurate. The only thing I know about the Ayre is that it costs twice as much.
Is balanced necessarily better?
Nsgarch...Twice the signal and twice the noise. The only thing that matters is the signal-to-noise ratio, and this will be exactly the same for single ended or complementary circuitry, assuming the inverted signal circuit path performs the same as...
Is balanced necessarily better?
Nsgarch...Twice the signal, and TWICE THE CIRCUIT NOISE. Somehow people forget the latter. Balanced interconnects are less sensitive to noise pickup IN THE WIRES, but that is not usually a problem with home audio.
Do Audiophiles really like music?
Cwlondon...One of my favourite LP's is a test record that has a so called "silent groove" selection. It's fun to crank the volume up, boost the bass, and soak up that awesome rumble.
Behringer DEQ2496 HELP
Ecruz...What if the Squeezebox is turned on and in the room but not connected to the audio system? It apparently radiates a signal, and maybe that interferes with the Behringer. Why don't you talk to the Squeezebox service people.
4 ohm vs 8 ohm taps
inpepinnovations@aol.com...Have a nice day.
Behringer DEQ2496 HELP
Ecruz...The Behringer has a "hard bypass"...you can turn its power off, and the signal will pass through it without any analog or digital processing. Try leaving all the wires connected and shutting the Behringer power off and see if the problem g...
THE LATEST---Gold plated fuses?
Uppermidfi...For the ultimate results, (so they say) fuses must be bypassed (eliminated). Perhaps they will bypass the circuit breakers as well. And how about the wattmeter. Bypassing that will also save money (until they catch you).
4 ohm vs 8 ohm taps
inpepinnovations@aol.com...You say quite plainly, "The tubes continue to see the primary winding impedence, whose impedence remains constant regardless of what impedence speaker is attached to whatever tap". It is not a question of misunderstandin...
Do Audiophiles really like music?
I have always enjoyed music, mostly classical, since before I had a phonograph (as audio systems were then called). But I have other interests, and one of them is messing around with electronics and loudspeakers. Hardly unexpected for an engineer....

Ecruz...What is a Squeezebox?
4 ohm vs 8 ohm taps
.inpepinnovations@aol.com...An 8ohm speaker on the 8 ohm tap, and a 4 ohm speaker on the 4 ohm tap will look the same to the tubes driving the primary. (That's why different taps are provided). If the 8 ohm speaker is on the 4 ohm tap or the 4 ohm...
