LED vs Plasma, 60" vs 65"
Akg_ca: I would suggest getting an ISF certified calibrator. THX is a rather ridiculous specification as it's also a label that any manufacturer can throw on a product if it's even remotely capable. I've had all of my televisions calibrated by an ...
Need Help with Vintage console player - New to LPs
Mapman,I'm not certain if it plays 78s. I will check when I get home from work. To be honest, I bought this on a whim and it was so cheap, I couldn't resist. The receiver works flawlessly, and the FM tuner is stunningly good for a unit this old.As...
Need Help with Vintage console player - New to LPs
Rich,My table actually looks to be identical to the one in your link. The console is different, but the table appears to have all of the same features. I will get in touch with Needle Doctor today and see what we can come up with. I was holding ou...
Ways to Reduce Atmospheric Noise
The noise generated by appliances such as a compressor in a refrigerator or the spray nozzle of a dishwasher resides well above the bass regions, and good old absorption and isolation is the key here. The first thing you should do, as suggested ab...
Floorstanders for small room 10x10ft
I'm with Vedder and the previous poster in support of Tekton. The M-Lore, Oriel-10, or Lore would fit that situation and give you in-room response well into the 30Hz range. They're front ported and can be placed against the wall without issue.Save...
USB to SPDIF Converters
If anyone is still interested in this thread, I can say that the M2Tech was a huge improvement in sound from PC optical out to DAC. After living with the HiFace for a year, I upgraded to the Anedio U2 USB interface. It was a major improvement in o...
Active/Passive Bass Correction Dilema
I had an honest chuckle when I read your reply, Magfan! The idea behind a pair of sub-woofers isn't output, but faithful reproduction of the source material. You wouldn't want to down-mix your stereo to mono and output it via one of your maggies, r...
Active/Passive Bass Correction Dilema
Kijanki,Thanks for the response! I'm pretty set on having a stereo pair of subwoofers, but I do need to look deeper into on-board room correction...Evan
SET sound without a lot of money
I am a Vienna owner and I'm not convinced you could drive the Beethoven's with such low wattage and more importantly low current. The advertised efficiency is a bit of a fib as they don't show you the impedence curve. In the bass region the impede...
Oversampling rate in J River
Steve,I wonder if you've seen anything about the SOtM tX-USB and SOtM In-Line SATA Power Noise Filters out of South Korea. Chris of Computer Audiophile recently built a new audio server with these two components and they seem to address a lot of w...
Oversampling rate in J River
Luckily Steve is always forthcoming about being in the business, and of course he'll tell you that his product will help; how else would he stay in busniess?I read through W4S's J River setup guide and they hit all the important spots. Your setup ...
Oversampling rate in J River
Dmm53,To better analyze your results, could you tell me what output method you're using in Media Center? As a rule of thumb, the DSPs in Media center should only be used if you've got a less-than-ideal situation, such as a home theater. A lot of t...
which output setting sounds best?
I won't pursue it further, but your honesty really doesn't help the OP. He's already purchased the gear, and wants a little advice on setup.Don't presume that your sage advice on how to listen and what to listen for is what's necessary in every in...
which output setting sounds best?
Most of the posters are correct, but I take exception to Cerrot's position. Upon inspection of your virtual systems, I can see that in your eyes and budget, the HRT may seem "indecent", but to someone just breaking into PC Audio, it's a real drag ...
Preamp repeatedly blows fuses
I did disconnect everything, and isolated the preamp on a different outlet in the apartment.Luckily I dropped it off at Music Technology this afternoon and Bill set me straight. Hopefully in a week or so I'll have it back and better than ever!
