tube amplifier auto bias- accurate?
Does manual biasing always drift over time? So the amp is always slightly off without auto-biasing. So this could be very tube depended. Some output tubes can last quite a while without drifting while other change on a weekly or monthly basis.

Experiences with SlimDevices Squeezebox.
DAC is not necessary. Difficult to answer on the sound quality question. It depends on many variables. If you are just streaming 128kbps mp3, then it matter little. If the wireless network is slow, it will sound bad irregardless.Assume all the com...
DAC sampling rates
Most DACs in the last 10 years support multiply frequency and higher bit rate. It depends on the receiver/implementation whether it works or not.A PC computer will be able to read DVD-A but not SACD with correct sound card/SW. I think you need a S...
Using a CDP to copy a cd to computer
Don't know this for sure, but doesn't iTune on Mac also supports a special error correction mode for ripping CDs.I have heard that it's quite good. It will rip a bit slower than standard mode but will correct most errors.
In Dash CD Players R.I.P.?
Ultraviolet:Regarding lossless files, you are correct that they are perfect match bit-for-bit to original wav file, but there is a catch. The player for each lossless file type could sound quite different depending SW configuration and etc. For ex...
Large Audio Libraries
I have about 150gig of Apple lossless on iTune in Windows XP environment and it runs fairly fast. That's about 500 cds. I think iTune runs on mp3 ID3 tag as well. Maybe it has its only internal database system.I tried the same on WMP and it is not...
Latest iPod Configuration -- Any New Hope?
Here are some suggestions:Rip all your music using EAC FLAC -> convert to WMA lossless -> Apple lossless. (Delete WMA lossless afterward)This ensures perfect CD ripping and you can keep all the files in an open format and still use iPod. Nee...
Using a CDP to copy a cd to computer
The data stored on the HD would be identical to the data on a music CD, but transporting this data to the DAC would result in the same problem as transporting the data from a standard CD transport to a DAC. It's also a one-time process that result...
Using a CDP to copy a cd to computer
Using EAC with a high speed CD-ROM in secured mode will insure 100% accuracy. Any error encounter during the read is verified many times and errored corrected before continuing. I have encountered about 2 out 500 discs that had excessive error tha...
What is the magic behind SET
Here is my journey:I started out with Cary 300B SEI 5-6 years ago, but my speakers were not good match for them. I ended up going to an all Levinson Avalon system for a few years. I was never quite satisfied with that system. It did all the techni...
What is the magic behind SET
A good place to read about SET is the SET forum on Audio Asylum. Very large archive of information to learn about SET amps.To me the biggest SET magic is the immediacy factor. A SET system can sound bright, soft or somewhere inbetween, but the mus...
USB vs Digital Out from Audigy 2 Sound Card
If you want another PCI sound card option, you can use a $25 Chaintech AV-710. It's a very good sounding option. I just installed one according to the instruction posted on headfi.org. You might be surprised by how good it sounds. It only has an op...
Music from hard drive better than CD?
One thing missing from all above posts thus far is a discussion on error free music free rippig. Not every CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is created equal. It's not as simple as which format to choose but which ripping SW/CD-ROM. One of the better SW is EAC (E...
USB vs Digital Out from Audigy 2 Sound Card
According to some postings on Headfi.org, SB Audigy 2 card resample all 44.1 kHz signal everything to 48 kHz for internal processing and then output to 44.1 kHz again. This process will introduce non-exact digital out and is quite common amoung co...
