What is the Best Sounding Stand Mount Speaker in the world?
Yamaha calls the NS-5000 a bookshelf speaker, but it has to be put on a stand so Absolute Sound classifies it as stand-mounted and the stands are included and integral to the design.  It's a shame AS did not give it its own review but included it ...
I have seen a lot of ideas concerning Cable lifters
Jack pad adapters work great and they're cheap.  Only available in black, which matches my cables.  They are really dense and hard rubber.  They're all over Amazon.  Just pay attention to the width of the groove relative to your cable.
Anyone else feel like it’s the Wild Wild West?
I wanted to try streaming but not spend a lot of money before deciding to really invest in the top tier gear.  I had purchased a Marantz SA-10 SACD player with a unique DAC that only accepts either coax or optical from a streamer, but not USB.  So...
Streamer creates a Wow experience
Thanks, I will.
Class D Amplification Announcement
If you started driving in the early 1960's, you know what a crappy car is and you know the worst car you can buy today is leagues better.  Our stereo equipment today has gotten so good for knowledgeable enthusiasts it's also hard to buy something ...
Streamer creates a Wow experience
Wow is right.  I just splurged based on this thread and everyone's advice and some more googling and got the iPower Elite.  I had just ordered the Japanese SHM version of The Police Greatest Hits but hadn't listened.  The first cut, Roxanne, is we...
Streamer creates a Wow experience
Thanks.  I did realize that after I posted that it is the power supply itself that can be noisy.  I did see that iPowerX online.  I then checked out some of the LPS mentioned in this thread and saw how much they cost.  I also found the iPower Elit...
Streamer creates a Wow experience
I also bought the ifi Zen Stream to try streaming.  I was able to take advantage of the DAC in my Marantz SA10 SACD player, which is not a DAC per se but works in a proprietary way, but only accepts 75 ohm coax SPIDF.  I invested in a true coax ca...
All New Yamaha NS-2000A Loudspeakers Are On The Market
I love my NS-5000's.  They plumb the depths of bass and are real classics with "breeding" and offer incredible value and technology.  They do take up more room than tower speakers so unless you've got a really large living room, they can tend to d...
After years of separates, I'm going integrated. Anyone else do the same?
I also purchased the Luxman 590axii but hadn't heard Luxman is "getting out of the Class A business".  A good integrated forms the basis for a "compact reference system", which is what I tried to put together since I really am space-limited.  Howe...
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss
I have the Marantz SA-10 purchased to build a compact reference system after lots of research on SACD/DSD players.  Got a great price new and it's a lot less expensive than other high end SACD players like Esoteric  or new Luxman. I'll never under...
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
Check out the Yamaha NS-5000. 8 years in development.  The only speaker with Zylon drivers (that beats beryllium, which Yamaha pioneered in the 1970's), the only full range speaker with woofer, mid-range and tweeter made from this same material) a...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
My experience is probably illustrative.  I never paid much attention to placement with my Gallo 3.1's, which seemed to have a really wide dispersion and were not sensitive to much moving around.  When I changed them for Yamaha NS-5000's I found my...
Speaker placement
The two things I found most helpful were inexpensive laser measures and casters.  My listening chair is against a wall so I put a laser measure on the top of each speaker aimed at a single spot where my head would be, but you can do it with one an...
The best $99 system upgrade ever!
This is what my doctor used:  https://doctor-easy.com/products/elephant-ear-washer.  Amazon sells it.  It comes with a cup but use it in the shower for no mess.  Just use some ear solution like Debrox, plug your ears for 10 minutes, then irrigate....
