Dynaudio 1.3SE and Proac 1SC
I would think the Rowland 2 would drive any of these speakers pretty well, certainly the Aerial 5's. Have you tried a big-power amp to see what sort of difference it makes?
dCS vs. Dodson DACs
One question for you, 90493. I found the Delius to be a bit on the side of forward-sounding. How would you compare the two brands in this regard? -Dan
dCS vs. Dodson DACs
Great comments. Thanks very much. I am waiting on a Dodson eval unit and have already tried the Delius (without Purcell), so I'll post my comments when I'm through.
Aleph-3 Questions
I owned an Aleph 5 for several years and would not count soundstage size among its strengths, but that isn't something I particularly lust after anyway. You may find what you are after by experimenting a little with cables.
Red Rose Speakers (From Mark Levinson)
I heard them at the NY store also, just a couple of weeks ago, and I agree they sounded terrific. Very, very neutral and natural and musical. The store mainly plays high-res sources, so that is certainly a factor. I'm sure the speakers are way ove...
sony scd777es and sacd
How good is the Sony as a transport-only for 16/44 CDs?
JOB, BelCanto, Perpetual, MilleniumDACs?
Subaruguy, that is a GREAT post! You really captured the morass I often find myself in when evaluating components. --Dan
JOB, BelCanto, Perpetual, MilleniumDACs?
If budget were less of a concern, which upsampling DACs would you look at? I'm particularly interested in anyone's experience with the gear from Dodson and dCS. Thanks.
Eagle John Iverson
Someone used to run a classified in Stereophile (I think) about service for Eagle amps. Not in the current issue, but you might find it if you go back a bit.
Most achingly-beautiful music
John Cage's In a Landscape (perhaps intellectually beautiful as opposed to achingly so). Also Barber's Adagio for Strings (as many have said) and parts (at least) of the Rutter Requiem. Also that brief passage of music the Grateful Dead played com...
Uncoloured Speaker for $450
There's a a very readable, useful survey of several small speakers in the latest Listener. The Krix Equinox list for $599 and the authors sure had lot of good things to say about them. (The favorite was the JM Reynaud, but they are pricier and pro...
PS Audio Multiwave
I suggest you work directly with PS Audio. Notwithstanding the remarks above about their pricing, I have found them to be a good company to deal with--efficient, customer-oriented, etc. I also admire the way they have used the Internet as a channe...
PS Audio Multiwave
Okay, and I hope we can also get a few more comments about what the upgrade sounds like.
PS Audio Multiwave
Sagger, as with all things technology, the fact that it is merely a chip and a board is not a sound way to draw conclusions about what it should cost. For one thing, what's on that board? But the main thing is that you are paying for SOFTWARE here...
XLRs vs RCAs
Some interconnects can be re-terminated and some can not.
