TACT 2.2X As Preamp? Or Run Thru BAT?
I think it is pretty common to use the TacT with an external preamp (I do, so it must be common, right?). It is also common to use it with an external DAC, and then you need to have the preamp to follow the DAC. If you can swing it, I would try th...
Looking for the Rosetta stone, my missing link
>1.5 GB RAMI giggled when I saw that. It doesn't seem all that long ago when we thought we were really cruising with 512K.
Ever perform a preamp bypass comparision test?
You're not a freak. In some ways, what you propose is threatening to some of our core beliefs as audiophiles. There was a thread not too long ago about which component is most important, and many people weighed in with preamp. At times, I must say...
TACT digital corrections preamps?
Are you using for analog also? (I notice your system has plenty of analog front end.) After months out of the system, I put it back in last weekend in my new house. In spite of obvious improvements, I continue to feel that I am losing some of the ...
TACT digital corrections preamps?
Checking in with folks--onhwy61 and marakanetz, how's it going with the TacT?
Review: Vandersteen 1b Speaker
This is good info. I have a non-audiophile friend with Model 2's who needs to downsize (physically). His instinct is to go with the 1B's, but I keep thinking there are probably better choices, especially since he can spend more than what the 1B's ...
Dirt on my stylus.....what to do?
I'm using the item that MF described and it seems to work quite well. However, I have not tried the alternatives mentioned in this thread.Someone in these parts said that silly putty will do what the Fremer device does for, obviously, a lot less m...
Albertporter only needs 50
Depending on price, I am probably good for 3, maybe 4.
Preamps with variable gain... pros and cons?
My whole audiophile life has been spent with systems where the preamp volume is rarely above 10:00 and where sometimes I can't turn it down enough. I'd like to see more of this kind of adjustment, as well as selectable output from digital sources,...
What is the Sound of Impedence Mismatch?
I think the second suggestion is a winner. I'm pretty sure I can handle the soldering, but--and I'm embarrassed to ask this--the resistance should be added to the "hot", right, and that is which, the inner plug or outer jacket on an interconnect? ...
What is the Sound of Impedence Mismatch?
Thank you, Bob. Great info! I think that making this kind of modification is beyond my comfort level, however. Would there be any way to fashion an interconnect "extension" that would add the resistance and let me see, on a diagnostic level, wheth...
Kimber or Cardas for Dynaudio 1.3se
Bwhite, that you for that! An heroic effort (small pun intended) to convey what Kimber sounds like in a way I can grasp. NBS is another brand I'm not familiar with, but I do know Cardas. Where would you put Harmonic Tech on the bouncing ball spect...
What is the Sound of Impedence Mismatch?
So...I asked Nelson Pass (duh!). He says that, yes, it is 11K single ended. He added that I could insertresistance in series with the input if I like. The gain of the X150 is about 30 dB, so if I put 22K in series I would still get 20 dB gain.What...
Kimber or Cardas for Dynaudio 1.3se
Bwhite, how would you characterize the Kimber house sound? It is one of a few leading cable brands I have no experience with, but I'm starting to get interested.
What is the Sound of Impedence Mismatch?
