Green Mountain Audio at RMAF
To each his own. But the $2900 Callisto vs, the VR4Sr at, what, $7K?
Aesthetix Calypso vs First Sound Presence Deluxe
Nor bright.
Ayre C5xe or APL 3910 ?
What might have been the JRDG digital player was being designed as a side project by Rich Maez, who recently left JRDG for Boulder. That's my understanding anyway.
placette vs sonic euphoria
I've owned a Placette and have heard a Sonic Euphoria in my system. I can't say which sounds better all things being equal, but the Placette active unit (the pricey one) should absolutely work with any source and any amplifier. The Sonic Euphoria'...
Green Mountain Audio at RMAF
I spent a lot of time with Roy in the Callisto room. He didn't play Europas for comparison, but my impression is that the Caliisto's are more "refined" (not sure how to explain that). I suspect they have more and slightly deeper bass, but hard to ...
Green Mountain Audio at RMAF
They had display models only of those two. The Callisto and Contiuum 3 (in two rooms) were the only live demos as far as I know.

Reference DACS: An overall perspective
We need names for categories 1 and 2. Like HP's yin and yang, which are more about describing dark vs. light, Bordeaux vs. Chardonnay.I think I'm a Cat 1 guy mostly.
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
Thanks for this. I especially appreciate your effort to group the DACs and to compare the group sound to speakers most of us are familiar with. I wish more reviewers would provide this kind of insight into the overall character of a component.
Thoughts on the Jeff Rowland Concerto integrated?
Rich Maez told me that the 201 + Concerto pre will outperform the Concerto integrated. Better low-frequency authority and punch, better channel separation, and better dynamics due to a larger preamp power supply. I wonder who's right. Is Rich still...
