Amplifier reproduction of instrument Timbre
Regarding the Haas effect, the thing that interested me most about the amplifier differences was that they were all perceive through the same listening conditions and speakers which are presumably time/phase coherent. I would think any phase or ti...
which speaker cables to buy?
There are hundreds of opinions on this forum and others about speakers cables, how much to spend, does it make a difference etc. I have been a skeptic all along about claims about cable difference. I have found that some cables do seem to sound di...
Rotel RA-1062 AMP and Paradigm Studio 20 v4
Had paradigm 20's for a while - Have Green Mountain's now and wouldn't think of looking back - there are a lot of great bookshelves to be had used that will surpass Paradigm 20s for less money. The Paradigm's have a lot of cabinet interference and...
Ayre amplifier to Subwoofer connections
Drubin- It sounds like Al helped you figure this out. Ayre did not give very complete instructions.FYI- you can't use tape out for subwoofer output because it is a fixed output and not connected through the volume control. Al - no offense taken - ...

Al, I get it and appreciate your help - now I am going to leave things as they are and enjoy it.drew.
Ayre amplifier to Subwoofer connections
Al,One subwoofer only. What I meant to indicate was when either the left or right input from the DAC is pulled from the Ayre AX7 integrated amp (only one stereo side connected) I hear output from both main speakers (whether or not the sub was on)w...
Ayre amplifier to Subwoofer connections
almarg,A follow up on this. I connected my r/l speaker outs to the sub, red to speaker positive input and black to chassis ground. The sound was good but not what I expected from the Ayre, the soundstage was compressed into the center and some har...

Speaker Height - improved bass response.
Mwii,I have always had the stands filled with sand. I also, according to the suggestion of Roy Johnson of GMA, use blue-tak to secure the speakers to the stands. I had assumed that it had to do with wave cancellation but you're right, s.hortening ...

Ayre amplifier to Subwoofer connections
Al,You are very good at explaining things! you must be a physics teacher or something. I am familiar with how balanced connections work to cancel noise by summing inverted signals. Your explanation has helped me to understand the issue of the inte...
inexpensive preamp for Ayre V3 with Green Mountain
Thanks Rufipennis - your advice and help has been greatly appreciated.I am going to try to find a 7e - Ayre charges $250 or $350 depending on age and still does the upgrade. I thought I missed out on the previous deal but when I add it up, I think...

I love this site! I posted a wanted ad and am going with an AX-7e. Next time I will listen to Roy the 1st time! I spoke with the guys at Ayre and they recommend the AX-7e over the V3 with some pretty clear and candid comments. Ayre seems like a gr...
