UPDATE, I just downloaded a remastered copy of New Morning that is a great improvment over all the previous issues including the vinyl.

Grace Slick: Manhole,almost un-listenable on the CD I own.This needs a major overhaul.Bob Dylan: New Morning, I don't think anything can be done to improve this horrible recording of one of my all time favs.

I Just Don't Hear It - I wish I did
You mentioned Maple hardwood. My turntable sounds much better on a 3" thick maple block then on a 70lb granite base. Much too bright and shrill on the stone and more warm and lifelike on the wood. It's not my imagination.

I was thinking this post might be about Stereophile letting Sam plug products, not about toothbrushes.Regarding his quote, if I had to choose I would rather have a toothbrush then any piece of audio gear, that's just me though.

I recommend a real big hammer and a sharp chisel.With enough very hard pounding you should be OK in no time.
