Diamond drivers
Okay. I've heard them at shows myself and haven't been impressed either. But get them in a proper audio room, and the sound can be transformative.

I've seen that review. Amplifiers will sound different in different systems. I have the Cherry 180 using KT88s tubes, not KT120s, and never found the amp lacking in high frequency extension.

Bob doesn't do mods. Where do you live?
Diamond drivers
Johnk, not sure what you're driving at. The crossover, driver, and cab work are all part of the essential the design work, although some may argue that the crossover is the most important.

Jwm, don't you think making a sweeping statement after hearing a pair of speakers under show condition is premature, if not unfair to our fellow readers? I have heard the Raidho C1.1s (with proprietary ceramic mid/bass instead of diamond, same twe...
Top resistors
Hi Response34, I was going to use some Mills MRA-12 for the power supply and as possibly plate resistor for my tube amp. But the new Mills resistors are now produced in Mexico, no longer in USA. Someone told me there's been some problems with the ...
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
Atmasphere, could you please clarify a statement you made on another related thread?"Marqmike, unfortunately all amplifiers make odd ordered harmonics. It is the 5th, 7th and 9th that we are concerned about (the 3rd is considered musical to the hu...

That's great you found affordable better KT88s. I read on thetubestore.com that the Sovtek has tight bass except for the very bottom end. What is your assessment of the very bottom end of this tube? The EAT tubes are crazy expensive, and I've read ...
Non-feedback amplification topology and frequency
Hi Jmacinnis, I'm glad you are happy with your system. My thread that you pointed out really has nothing to do with what makes us happy about our system or about our sound preference. The crux of my post is about whether a the output from a NFB am...
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
Atmasphere, I've seen you write about how bad odd order harmonics can sound (ie, subjectively bright and hard) even at very low levels. Can you please specify at what level are odd order harmonics perceived as unpleasant? I don't recall you ever g...
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
Kinjanki, I think the Hyperion 938 is truly one of the great speakers in high end. I regret selling them to a friend. You can get 938s at bargain prices now. I am thinking of getting another pair.
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
"Mapman, the question here is if NFB makes reproduction MORE faithful. Some answered that there is no faithful reproduction, which doesn't answer this question, while others stated they prefer sound of ZNFB which doesn't answer this question eithe...

Sovtek KT88s? I think those are even cheaper than the stock tubes, and they sound better than the stock? That's great. I have the Telefunken smooth plate 12AX7s.
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
The degree of feedback needed is dependent on speaker that is driving. You make a valid point. The designer purposefully built feedback into the amp. I don't necessarily understand the article fully as my technical knowledge is limited, but I can ...
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
Edwyun, I have an amp with adjustable feedback, so you can change feedback while keeping every other parameter constant. In this case, feedback can have a significant, if not drastic, effect on the sound. So stating feedback alone has little effec...
