Would Audiogoners be interested in this?
Ben,I think your idea is a no-brainer. We all buy and sell equipment in order to improve the reproduction of music in our homes. Information on new releases fits in perfectly. I would be particularly interested in information on new releases and r...
Stupid question of the day: Should I leave Amp on?
Both manufacturers of the amps I've held on to for a while--Bryston and now Meitner--recommend that you leave the amp and preamp on all the time unless you're out of town or there's a thunder storm. It's certainly my experience that most solid sta...
that studio'ish sound
If you want "studio" sound, then use when many studios use: Bryston, Crown Studio Reference, etc., but the most important ingredient is the monitors: you won't get the dynamics and speed of a studio monitor with most domestic speakers, even audiop...
best preamp for bryston 14 b st, or 7 b sst?
In my opinion "brightness" was a problem with pre-ST Bryston products, not with the ST and SST series. If you're happy to use a 14B or 7B SST monos for power, I believe you will be most satisfied with a BP-25 for pre.Regards,Joel.
I need to get rid of my JBL 4311s don't I?
If your 4311s are working fine, don't need the woofer surrounds replaced and you're enjoying them, I'd say don't spend money you don't have to spend. If you wish to try something else, I'd say stick with high sensitivity speakers like you already ...
newbie seeking stereo system advice
From my experience, unless you're biamping with an electronic crossover (and bypassing the passive crossovers built into your speakers), it's a better investment to improve the quality of your source or amplifier. And if you need to buy an electro...
Which monitors ?
Tannoy System 1200 (new street price around US$1600/pr.). Real professional studio monitors used widely for both mixing and playback.Embarrasses most anything else in this price range. Sold only through pro audio dealers.95 dB sensitivity makes th...
Which components knocked you out on first listen?
Back in the 1970s it was listening to Altec Model 19s and Tannoy Monitor Golds.More recently, upgrading from a Quad 34/606 to Meitner PA6+/MTR-101s, and from a Sony CDP-X779ES to a Sony SCD-777ES with Allen Wright analogue output stage.Cheers,JT
Who services Meitner MTR 101 amps in U.S.?
Posting, I know, to a very old thread, but just in case this is useful, John Wright still services and upgrades Meitner, Museatex and Melior products. All the relevant info at: www.museatex.com.Regards,JoelOttawa[Own and recommend Meitner PA-6 and ...
Any feedback on TANNOY?
I've used Tannoy dual concentrics for over thirty years and have not yet found a compelling reason to move to another brand of speaker--at least for what I can afford. The best value for money are their professional studio monitors for which you ha...
best monitor available?
The Tannoy System 12 DMT and System 12 DMT II, the predecessors to the System 1200, are superb near/mid-field monitors, largely sold to the professional market, though there is a growing coterie of home listeners who have caught on to what might b...
Best Values and worst values in SS and tube amps ?
I don't think the premise is bone-headed--if readers and posters take all comments as no more than recommendations made from personal experience.Even then, one would want to know with what other components a person auditioned the various amps in q...
Moving to Horn speakers
I'd say before you settle on Lowthers, see what other drivers and horns are out there. See also what other high sensitivity speakers are out there. While I like Lowthers and other full-range drivers, I find them too "small" sounding and a bit rest...
Good ROCK speakers
IN my experience, the best choice is what studios use as playback (not mixing) monitors. The old JBLs from the 1970s, when refurbished, will indeed fit the bill.Tannoy and Altec coaxials offer similar clarity and dynamics, but superior soundstagin...
What speakers would match well to my tube system?
I recommend high sensitivity coaxials: Tannoy System 12 DMT or 15 DMT; Tannoy Monitor Golds or HPDs; Altec 604-8G, 604-8H, 604-8K.All these drivers work well with solid state as well.Plus if at some later date you decide to bi-amp you'll realize t...
