Bifrost multibit vs gungnir multibit
I bought the Gungnir multibit, and listening right now. I have to say, as it’s going right now, somewhat major improvement to my ears ( I try to stay away from hyperbole, so what I’m feeling right now may be the first rush). As I bought it used, I...
Bifrost multibit vs gungnir multibit
thanks for the response, Bob. I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts about the upgrade when you get it. I’m already leaning heavily toward the Gungnir multibit, but have also thought I should check out some other options. The main reasons I am...
Upgrading a CD/SACD player with integral DAC
Skyscraper, what I like about the balanced connections is that they seem to be a nice solid “click in place” kind of connection, and I have some balanced inputs on my preamp. Also, it seems that many components have higher voltage output on their ...
Upgrading a CD/SACD player with integral DAC
Good morning Skyscraper, not long ago I was in a similar situation, I had (still have, as a matter of fact) an Arcam UDP411 which I purchased used on the recommendation of a review and because I was looking for one machine to cover a lot of bases,...

Appice!
Great musicians who should have been famous except....
Also, didn’t see Carmine Apple mentioned.  Another foundation for others, including Bonham.
Great musicians who should have been famous except....
Bdp24’“John Bonham’s famous kick drum triples (ask your son what that means) are played purely to show he can play them---they are musically unrelated to what any other musician is playing.“Really?  Not what I’m hearing.  At all.  All the players ...
Barometric pressure, temperature, moon phase?
Thank you all for your input, the source was red book cd.  No cables or connections recently disturbed.  The effect was slight, seemed normal the next day, I’m gonna chalk it up to ear wax, and Russian election interference effects, both electroni...
Barometric pressure, temperature, moon phase?
Viridian, now that’s truly sage advice.erik, no class D, Parasound JC1 monos, and the rig has been running for several hours.  When not active, they’re always in stand by mode.stringreen, yep, everything is always in the mix.I’ve noticed this phen...
System phenomenon when playing loud
Much thanks, George!  I’m imagining that the hard part will be determining the value of the inductors.  Unfortunately, in my experience, they don’t often have a handy label on them when factory installed.  Last night as I played with volume levels...
System phenomenon when playing loud
Mike and George, thank you!  Excellent thoughts.  I don’t think it’s the room, but the room is about 15’ wide (speakers are along that wall) by 25’ deep, 9’ ceiling.  No treatments on the walls (yet), outside of normal pictures and other furniture...
Our Responsibility
I think this is a fascinating question, and clearly one that triggers passion.  One thing I would add is that quality has a staying power second to none.  The main reason we get to enjoy Shakespeare’s plays is that they are damn good, and generati...
Arcam FMJ UDP411 control issues
Update:Thanks to all for suggestions, I ended up getting a factory refurbished Yamaha CD-s2100, and two friends of mine may have a death match to see who gets the UDP411 for a super bargain price.I don’t know if CD players need to burn in, or if r...
Arcam FMJ UDP411 control issues
Update:  I just got the Arcam UDP411 back from the repair shop, and it’s still rejecting SACD discs, and red book discs that I try after it’s rejected the SACD discs. Seems if I power it up and down while trying red book cd’s, it eventually accept...
Arcam FMJ UDP411 control issues
I’ve had such bad luck with British CD players.  Two NAD players crapped out, now the Arcam.  It’s at the stereo hospital now, looks like a new laser is needed.  I’ll know better now, but I do like how those British players sound.thanks for the su...
