Install A Dedicated AC Line at home
@mikempls Hmmm, this is just me, but I personally have a little bit of a problem with installing 30 amp circuits for audio equipment protection. Even though almost all audio equipment has its own internal fuse or circuit breaker, from gut instinct...

@sgreg1 >>>You live in CA. If you go by the book you will need to pull permit, have three inspections, and an environment impact study done before any work. You will be in at 5K before they touch any wire.<<< An excellent point ...
Why does rock concert sound suck?
@curtdr >>>The studio monitors are designed, first of all, for the studio...well, you get my point<<< No doubt about it. I'm familiar with nearfields vs standard home audio system speakers. I've been to the CES high performance ...

Great tip Jerry.
Joni Mitchell remasters on the way
@jwillox I took time to read the PS Audio article you linked, but didn't bother with the comments section. Much of this I already understood. It's almost a matter of taste. Some of us have the equipment and quiet environments to listen to recordin...
Joni Mitchell remasters on the way
@hilde45 Even though I have all of the original vinyl pressings of the Joni Mitchell releases we're discussing, I rarely ever play them, I won't even reference those, as I personally believe vinyl reproduction has its disadvantages compared to dig...
Joni Mitchell remasters on the way
@hilde45 >>>"Remastered loudness." How you know that in advance is beyond me.<<< How do I know that? From past experience. Remastered usually now means balls to the wall compression and limiting, with added EQ, which equals loud...

You might consider first asking friends if they know of any electricians that have done good work for them in the past. If you've never tapped into nextdoor.com, you might also consider posting on that website and asking for suggestions on reputab...
Any Mark Knopfler fans out there?
@shadorne >>>He also happens to be a bit of a stickler for sound quality<<< Glad to hear that (no pun intended). Seriously though, maybe that's why the past Dire Straits albums had so much dynamic range, going all the way back t...
Why does rock concert sound suck?
I've many times read discussions where audio enthusiasts construct home systems to try and recreate a live performance type sound. I don't know about you, but I'm the complete opposite. I try to create a system and sound that closely replicates (a...
Joni Mitchell remasters on the way
Oh great, more remastered loudness. Sorry, all of those releases were originally mastered and mixed perfectly to begin with. Remastering is not even necessary in this case. Court and Spark on Asylum (1001-2) was the first CD I ever heard, and IMO,...
Why does rock concert sound suck?
I'm not a big fan of the audience singing every song either. The first time this really bothered me was at a Tim McGraw show about 15 years ago. I think every audience member sang every song, and very loudly too. Guess what, I didn't pay to hear t...
Why does rock concert sound suck?
Been to plenty of rock concerts in my years. I no longer attend many of them, as they're way overpriced these days (for my budget), and yeah, IMO, with all of the latest fancy sound gear that's out these days, I'll chime in also saying that I thin...
unpluggin entire system
Maybe it's just been routine for me, and I should have been a little bit more specific. For me personally, when powering down, in this order: 1) power amps 2) preamp 3) any other audio gear after that 4) finally power conditioners. Power amp firs...
unpluggin entire system
I don't think it makes a bit of difference when powering down, but I'd personally turn OFF each piece of equipment first, then unplug everything. From past experience, most of my equipment failures have all taken place when turning ON equipment.
