Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Richard,Agree we should all routinely ground ourselves at the tonearm base whenever we approach the table. A surprise zzZZZAP! near the armwand or cartridge could produce a costly involuntary jerk (and yes, that's just what Paul calls me!). Hi Chr...
Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Richard,Don't you understand ANYTHING about sub-atomic physics? ;-)The non-conductivity of your shoes and carpet is WHY you get a big discharge when you finally touch a grounded object. If you were grounded at every step there'd be no buildup of a...
Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Jj2468 is correct. Thom's suggestion would only work if there were a conductive path between belt and bearing. There might be on a Galibier, but not on a Teres. However, the OP's question is a red herring. If you remove all static potential between...
ZYX Airy 3 or Atmos Ish,Sorry for not responding to your email, I plead holiday madness. Now I'm back at work with more free time!First, congrats on your new rig. Great way to start a new year.Regarding cartridges, I haven't heard a 3009R in ages, and never with a ZY...
DaVinci tonearm and azymuth For clarity, I think we all agree that shimming is sub-optimal. The method Thom and I described and the link I posted are a band-aid for a problem that shouldn't exist, at least not on pricey tonearms. Shimming works for azimuth but it also has so...
Cartridge recommendations Considering your sonic priorities, equipment and budget, why restrict yourself to MC's? There are probably dozens of MM's that provide the sound you're after for less money, and with no Grado hum (or dance) issues. Why go looking for trouble at 2-...
DaVinci tonearm and azymuth Thom is correct. Optimizing azimuth for any particular cartridge requires a MUCH finer adjustment than 0.5 degree, at least 10X finer I'd say. I don't believe any set of differential shims you could easily buy would provide the necessary precision...
New Cartridge = right channel distortion Nebelmeeer80,Thank you for posting those pix and I agree with Buconero117. Everything you've tried or could try with this cartridge is a waste of time and discussions of anti-skating (or whatever) are beside the point. The cartridge's cantilever a...
Speed strobe recommendation. Richard,I work for a company that supports the electric power generation industry. Frequency variation on the grid should be virtually zero, certainly far less than the variation you suggested. Power generators never bring an off-speed or out-of-p...
Speed strobe recommendation. Agree with Speedy9194. My partner made one using Corel Draw, but if we'd known about the one at vinylengine that might have worke too. It seems worth trying, unless $100+ doesn't matter to you.A cheap fluorescent light is all you need for illumina...
Convert cartridge output voltage to db gain John,You should be aware that ZYX's output specs for their MC's is not based on the industry standard test record. I lost the reference (I think Nsgarch posted it here once), but from memory you need to multiply ZYX's stated output by ~1.4 to get ...
Ever so slight platter wobble This may sound idiotic, but are you sure you don't have the platter installed upside-down?A slightly tapered bearing spindle matched to a slightly tapered hole in the platter (both narrower at the top) would provide an inherently stable fit, assum...
Convert cartridge output voltage to db gain A cartridge with 2.0mv output will need a higher input impedance than your .24mv cartridge, typically something from 10K-47K ohms. Can your phono stage provide that *without* switching to the MM inputs and reducing the gain you're trying to increa...
Where is the problem? Tracking error? Good additional insights by Stringreen. >> I suspect that bias compensation acts like damping...Exactly so, as does VTF, and for identical reasons. Both apply a constant force (whether lateral or vertical) which presses the cantilever into t...
Benefits of a record ring Another tonearm that doesn't work with most rings is the TriPlanar, for similar reasons to an SME IV or V. The TP's sub-arm hits the ring. I had to sell my ring when I got the arm. :-( |
