How to get 100 accurate azimuth?
As Riffer says, 100% perfect azimuth is impossible, unless by chance your cartridge is 100% perfect. Since no cartridge is...That said, I agree with Rushton's excellent post. I own a Wally Analog Shop, but over the years I've found I can adjust by...
$75 Thorens vs. $2K+ Michell...is this possible?
As others have pointed out, you're comparing apples and oranges. Unless you put the same cartridge on each rig you'll have no idea what the inherent qualities of the two rigs actually are.Sometimes my table sounds smothered or rolled off in the hi...
Nagaoka Dust Roller...Best or Worst Thing Ever?
I use mine exactly as Hdm described, to remove loose stuff dredged up by my Hunt CF brush before wet cleaning. My Nagaoka also leaves a film, though it cleans off easily and seems to decrease as the roller ages.Highly recommended convenience tool ...
Where does a sellers responsibility stop?
Darlene needs to talk with our Home Despot specialist, Johnnantais. His Lenco torque wrench would tighten that counter right up.
Turntable Pre-Echo Sound....?
Actually, it's a good sign for your system. Most pre-echoes are at pretty low levels. The more resolving the system, the easier and more frequently you'll hear them.
MC cartridge output measurements
I give credit to A'gon member Nsgarch for first bringing this issue to broader attention. He's posted about it here a number of times. Where he first learned about it I don't recall. One resource for "all" things phono (or tube)? That would be nice...
Which would you choose- Lyra, Zyx or Benz for VPI
Doug, I've read some of your previous posts on the Zxy and on one you commented that the Airy 3 may be lively on a unipivot arm. Do you have any concern about that. That was based on hearing it on Graham 2.2, and we did speculate it might be beca...
VPI table, cart and phonostage? - Novice.
Warjarret,I'm not sure why you resurrected a two year old thread, but congrats on your new cartridges.A word of caution about any used cartridge, especially one with a micro-ridge/line contact stylus like the ZYX: make sure the stylus is properly ...
vinyl storage?????
Check out Ikea. They have several shelving lines that accommodate LPs.
Which would you choose- Lyra, Zyx or Benz for VPI
Jspownell,I have not heard a JMW arm (with any cartridge). I'm sure somebody has used this combo. Maybe they'll chime in, or you could search for JMW +ZYX here or on VA. I suppose a ZYX might be a *little* closer to Helikon than Ruby. But be aware...
Which would you choose- Lyra, Zyx or Benz for VPI
Re: your foray into silver cables, no cable can recover information the cartridge failed to pick up in the first place. Benz styli have larger contact radii than Lyra or ZYX styli. This is especially true of the basic Ruby. It will literally slide...
Which would you choose- Lyra, Zyx or Benz for VPI
The ZYX will precisely split the difference between the slightly warm or thick sound of Benz and the slightly cool or thin sound of your Lyra. You've already heard both sides of neutral (not the extremes, by any means). That should give you some i...
New Vinyl Setup
Tvad,I wish I had some good suggestions to add to Dan's, but we followed his "don't buy too cheap" plan several years ago, with a vengeance. ;-)We went directly from a 25-year-old mid-fi rig that had been collecting dust for years to a Teres 265/O...
External motor’s connection with the speed of my t
By "adjust the motor" do you mean physically nudging it to keep the belt taut? That's what Dan (and I) took from the wording of your original post. If you have to do that every day it's not normal. Once my motor is set up right it stays that way f...
New Vinyl Setup
Kthomas,You're absolutely right about the large number of variables involved in a vinyl setup. Unfortunately, these days even if you buy new and pay a dealer for the initial setup there's no guarantee it will be done right. The audio industry main...
