yet another tube preamp recommendation thread
If the Sudebaker comment was directed at a preamp, it was made with NO knowledge of the situation.  Guy contacts me that he has bought a used preamp of mine and it is clicking on some volume settings.  He is third owner.  People flip gear, it happ...
yet another tube preamp recommendation thread
Don Sachs here.  To be fair, I have sent the person above a whole new power supply board for the Khozmo attenuator.  If that doesn't solve the popping we will source a new khozmo board because there may be a bad relay.  I have probably 100 khozmo ...
Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
Ancient thread.... but I have produced an integrated amp.  It runs the 6L6, EL34, and my favorite in there, the KT66.  32 watts/ch.  It is on my site.cheers,Don
Preamp suggestions, yes again
HiDon Sachs here. I normally stay out of threads, but I just want to clear up the misconception stated above. Yes, my preamp starts with the bare sp14 board. That is it. The circuit is a very good SRPP with an Akido buffer and the first time I hea...
Considering replacing my Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum with separates.
HIDon Sachs here. I can use any size output cap the user desires. Just that 1.5 uF is the largest of my favorite oil cap that I can fit in the case. I can easily fit a 3.9 uF Mundorf silver oil or silver gold oil in there or even a larger value. I...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
Don Sachs here.  Just a note, the preamp is made in Canada, but shipped from my shipping depot in E. WA, so shipping is the same as any US product.cheers,Don
Bit the Bullet ... Don Sachs Model 2 Preamp
Also, the output impedance is about 410 ohms.  That number is irrelevant.  The only thing that matters is the size of the output capacitor in relation to the input impedance of the following amplifier.  .47 uF will drive about 80K or higher and be...
Bit the Bullet ... Don Sachs Model 2 Preamp
The preamps with the big oil caps take a good 50-100 hours to run in.  So if you don't have 100 hours on it, you really don't know what it will finally sound like.   cheers,Don
Bit the Bullet ... Don Sachs Model 2 Preamp
Don Sachs here.  I updated the site a bit.  Never seem to have much time for it.   The current preamp is the new OLED version.  See the site and you will find it.
Bit the Bullet ... Don Sachs Model 2 Preamp
Don Sachs here..Tube life.. well it depends.  All tubes in every piece I build are run very conservatively and not pushed at all.   You should easily get many thousands of hours out of the 6SN7 types.  The KT88 in the power amp should go 2000+ hou...
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
Geez...  I have not heard them..... typed too fast!
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
Hi all,Don Sachs here.   I just want to clear something up.  Yes, you can buy a kit from Roy and build a great preamp.  I use the same board.  I suggested a number of improvements to that board and now kit builders can have them.  That said, my pr...
Don Sach's pre amp
Hi all, I have modified the preamp to take a 6BY5 rectifier because it sounds better and you can source 6BY5 tubes for $12 or less. If you own one of my preamps and pay the return shipping I will modify it for you and provide a 6BY5 tube for $7...
Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
The par metal ones because they are in New Jersey and you can get most any sizes.  I don't think they manufacture there though, they just stock parts.  Maybe I am wrong.  Anyway, you can get a cheap case and then have cnc panels made for $125 or s...
Don Sachs 2 vs. deHavilland Ultraverve 3
I have thought about it, but it would be low powered, probably el84 based or 6V6, and 15-19 watts/ch.   The problem is that I cannot fit the best line stage and the best power amp in any sort of smaller case so have thought about compromises that ...
