Best CD lens cleaner
I have a Sony 9000. Should I remove the cover or try to blow hte compressed air through the open drawer?db
What are the specs of a full range speaker?
It's useful to think in terms of how our auditory system might have developed. Sensing low frequency vibrations is useful to survival. Sources that make such low frequencies are likely to be harmful. Very high frequencies beyond those used for loc...
LA Show Report
I enjoy seeing and hearing the high-end stuff, just as I enjoy seeing a Ferrari test driver exercise a last year Formula One car at Laguna Seca. Most of us who have listened to audio for some time are only too aware of diminishing returns. The cos...
Best Sounding Room at the HE 2006 Show?
We did make it to the Lamm and Wilson rooms. Our impression is that the Acoustic Image room was best of show, with exceptional depth of soundstage. It was also one of the most attractive rooms.db
So how's it going with HD DVD?
I was very impressed by Sony's demo of Blue Ray at the LA Home Entertainment show yesterday. The Picture quality was outstanding! I will wait for the fallout, so won't be an early adopter, but I look forward to Blue Ray HD-DVD.db
music frequency
Eldartford,One of the most popular organ works for recital is the Bach Tocatta & Fugue in D minor. My recording is Deutche Gramaphone 427 668-2. There seem to be no extraneous noises, the small pipes have the immediacy of attack you expect, an...
music frequency
I have heard a number of pipe organ recitals in large churches, e.g. Stanford Memorial, and small, our little local 100+ year old Episcopal church has a fine pipe organ. The Velodyne HGS-15 sub gives that nearly inaudible but clearly felt sensatio...
open baffle vs sealed box designs
Not sure what OP meant by open baffle vs sealed box, but the purpose of the baffle is to avoid cancellation of front and rear propagations from a speaker, so at low frequencies (long wave lengths) the baffle has to be quite large. Thus you expect ...
HT Preamp-Processors w/ Balanced inputs & outputs
If you're willing to put up with the added complication of a Proceed PAV/PDSD combination, you can have 5 channels of XLR outputs to your amps. The Proceed PAV accepts XLR from CD/SACD and AUX inputs, and has analog pass-through cability. I have f...
How to get 2 Channel and Home theater in one packa
Bdgregory,My thought was based on the reviews of the 5800 series Denon, which were excellent. I too tried to replace my Proceed preamp/processor and amps with a Sony ES receiver, a 444; openess and transparency were sacrificied, so I switched back...
Speaker depreciation: Is there a rule of thumb?
Markphd makes a good suggestion in my experience: Follow the listings for a while. I have found the AudiogoN blue book to be generally high in average price. I am currently watching the Sony SCD-1 market, and missed a good one because I had not up...
How to get 2 Channel and Home theater in one packa
I know this will drive the audio crazys nuts, but a Denon 5800 series receiver would likely do an excellent job. But then you claim to be serious, so a simple solution just won't do. I guess I find myslef put off by those who think of high-end aud...
LPCM or Dolby Digital ?
GR,I retrospect, I think the P in LPCM may stand for pulse, not predictive as I wrote in my earlier post.db
LPCM or Dolby Digital ?
IIRC LPCM is an acronym for something like linear predictive code modulation, but I could be confusing things. It's been a long time. Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong.db
Spendor 2/3 or 1/2 in small room?
A local hobbiest friend has a pair of Spendor 1/2s in a very small space, and I've been impressed with their sound and imaging. I have been surprised, however, by the vibration you can feel on the sides of the cabinets even at moderate levels. IIR...
