home theatre questions
For best value I would suggest that you look at B-Stock PSB Image Series Speakers. I agree with an earlier responder on Denon and Sony ES receivers. I would also add the Yamaha RX series of receivers. For a video source look for an inexpensive Pan...
Rotel RMB 1095 - no 12 volt trigger
A device like the Panamax Max 5100 has its own dc trigger input which will then turn-on a poweramp connected to one of it's switched high current outlets. The down side is that its going to set you back a few more bucks.
Please help me tame the bass beast
I suspect that you have a room resonance problem. To find the approximate frequency at which a room will resonate divide 565 by the room dimension or in your case 565/18 = 31.5Hz and 565/12 = 47Hz. By taking multiples of these fundamentals you get...
Multipurpose floorstander speaker
You might checkout the PSB Stratus Bronze or one of the floorstanders in their Image Series -- www.psbspeakers.com. They are often listed on Audiogon and eBay at discount or as B-Stock.
Should Manufacturers Post Prices In Ads
I rarely follow-up on any ad that does not include price.
Power Cord Review
I support Jvogt's idea of including an inexpensive cable from Belden. I don't know your criteria or review methods but a cord such as a Belden is universally availabe and would make a good comparison baseline.
Any cheap but good speakers with bass?
Go to www.stereophile.com and read their review of the PSB Image 4T. In their words "The Image 4T's bass performance was uncanny." I own a set and have to agree. In B-Stock they are available for $400/pair at www.upscaleaudio.com.
Advice for the Budget 'Phile
The PSB Image 4Ts are very musical, present a good soundstage and have bass down to 40Hz. New, B-Stock can be found here on Audiogon for $399/pair.
"Whole house" surge protection.
There are two types of electrical surges that can be produced by lightning: directly injected and indirectly induced. Directly injected is that which enters on the power line and will cause a surge potector at the service entrance to fire. Indirec...
Frequency ranges
At www.psbspeakers.com under the heading Audio/Video Background there is a chart "The Frequencies of Music" which shows the frequency range of various musical instruments. This should complement the information given above by Sean and Sdcampbell.
Positioning and Listening distance
I suspect one of the reasons that simple equations seem to under estimate the distance to sit from speakers is because the calculations assume a point source for the speakers. The larger the speaker or the speaker array then the less accurate the ...
Denon AVR3300 fan = too noisy...help?
I had a Denon AVR 3300 that had an overheat problem -- it would shut down frequently. It was sent to Denon for repair and when it was returned it had the same problem that you are experiencing. Like you, I was happy with the sonic performance but ...
