CJ MF 2500A:is it gonna open up?
I had the same experience with a new 2500A a few years ago. Very disappointing at first--lots of detail, but metallic-sounding, as you describe. I've been through this before, so I used a technique which had helped me in the past: over the next fe...
Where are your maggies??
OK, Roose, here's a serious response that may actually help you. I owned the 3.6s for 6 months and ran them in a room 16X25 (about 1/4 of your space, I think, but my experience may still be appropriate for you). I bought them new, and during the f...
Review: ART SLA-1 Amplifier
Thanks, Audiojerry. I formed my opinions right out of the box, but didn't begin writing until it had been burning in for 96 hours. I ran it with a 10-ft basic Vans Evers pc right out of the wall, which is my usual amp MO. Yes, the amp can be bridg...
Review: ART SLA-1 Amplifier
D911, I owe you an apology for taking that cheap shot in my review--I was only anxious to distance myself from you so I wouldn't appear to be just some suspect shill. I can see that kind of sideswipe remark had no place in an equipment review. And...
Have you tried the ART SLA-1 amp yet?
I stumbled upon the thread in question last week while doing due diligence on the Parasound JC-1. It made for a fascinating read, especially when D911 admitted to doing mods for the SLA-1. I assume Audiogon removed the thread because they rightly ...
Has anyone else noticed this about Mozart ....
Listen to a lot more classical music, beginning with Bach (arguably the progenitor of the Classical period)through Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn to Schumann and Brahms (beginning the Romantic era}. Please pay lots of attention to...
CAL Alpha DAC - Cool Tubes?
I left an Alpha running night and day for several years, with the cover on, and had no problems. The tubes might have deteriorated somewhat, but if they did I couldn't hear it.
Which preamps if any combine all these features?
Look into the Sonic Frontiers Line 2 for a quality tube pre that's loaded with flexibility and features (except phono, of course).
Good MM cartridge - any ideas?
I use a Clearaudio Virtuoso II in my TNT/JMW-12 rig. It's my current favorite over the Benz Ruby II, Grasshopper and Grado Reference. Transparency, speed, inner detail and timbral accuracy that you'd never expect from an $800 cartridge with 3.6 Mv...
Any info on the new Piega 10???
I just received my pair on Saturday, so my evaluation may be premature...but so far I find nothing to dispute Valin's opinion in TAS. Even before break-in the sound is cleaner, more detailed, and the bass more powerful than anything else I've had ...
Perfection?
Oh waiter--I'll have what he's having!
