VAC Phi 300 or CAT JL2 for the Avalon Vision? I own the VAC Phi 300 and took it over to a friends house that has Lamm 1.2 driving Kharma 3.2's. The Vac 300 was the clear winner. He will be makeing the switch to the VAC soon.
C46 or C220 I having owned both the C2200 and the C200, matcheded at the time with an MC2000 tube amp. Or run direct to ATC Anniversay 50's speakers. Both Mcintosh pre amps are Sony ES sonics at best. I am trying to be some what polite, but they really are eas...
subwoofers and panels don't mix I tried running Running two Velodyne DD 10's subs with built in room correction. These are awesome subs IMO very fast and dynamic. But intergrating them in my system, at that time was to big a trade off for bass. Using the high pass in the subs ma...
Does anyone have the new VAC Phi 300 amplifier? I have had it for two weeks. But it has about 200 hours on it. I have left it on for long periods with a CD on repeat, to speed the break in. The break in is real. Out of the box it was decent, at about 100 hours it sounds good. At about 150 hours...
Does anyone have the new VAC Phi 300 amplifier? The Vac Phi 300 is awesome in every way. The Phi 300 is the 3rd $15,000.00 tube amp I have owned. The prior two were the Mcintosh 2000, and the Sonic Frontiers Power 3's. Both are inferior to the Vac, neither does one thing better than the Vac 300...
What is the best phono preamp you have heard? I second the Nick Doshi Phono Preamp. It out classed my prior reference the Supratek Grange. Which I have to say was a fine preamp as well, with excellent bass control, however, the Grange lacked the organic tone and musicality off the Doshi. Othe...
How much of the front end depends on the preamp After 14 years of this hobby, I personally had the hardest time getting the pre amp right. And I owned some pretty highly regarded pre amps. All had a very different sound, each pre always caused larger changes than any component or speaker change...
Mcintosh C2200 VS Mcintosh C200 S STATE ? I actually owned both of these. I hoped they would be a good match to my MC2000 Amp. But these are not musical pre amps. Compared to the Supratek Grange which is close in price to the C-200, it is apples and oranges, the Grange makes the Mcintosh ...
Power Cords on a $1000 budget what would you do? I second Tvad and others. With your current system, I would not put my money or yours in power cords. I would consider spending that thousand on another amp.
High pass quality to mains uisng Velodyne DD subs Jerrym303,With a second sub, the sound stage had much more dimensionality . It was night and day better in my system.
High pass quality to mains uisng Velodyne DD subs I tried both ways. I was running Running two DD 10's. It was a trade off in my system. Using the high pass in the subs made the speaker and sub intergration perfect. But it made the mids and highs sound electronic. And by not using the high pass, ...
Opinions on the "TACT" sonic signature? I ownded a Tact 2.2x. It did a good job with bass correction. That was it. If I needed active bass correction Velodyne DD 10's with room correction. And at have a pure mid's and high's. With the Tact music sounded very computerized, with out any h...
Dartzeel amp lives up to hype Jtinn, I was trying to state the DARTZEEL is NOT prone to failure.I don't own the Dart, I was auditioning one. If you read post 2-15-06 in this thread your will know.David
Dartzeel amp lives up to hype I want to comment about the Dartzeel failure at my home a couple months ago. When it blew a channel, we were swaping pre amps trying to see which pre was most synergistic with the Dartzeel. On initial power up a Dart channel blew. At that point I ...
Supratek Tubes and Tube Swappin' for Everybody Larry, I own a Grange, I had the Emission Labs 45 Mesh Plate's, and now use Western Electric 300B's. I my system the Western Electric are superior in every way. Not really even a close A/B comparison, to me they are night and day better. |
