High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older Pryso, no, no such beliefs about RS. That's why I added the "hopefully" in my comment. However, the Rives test CD does rely on that consistency as you're supposed to measure the absolute levels and then add/subtract the known deviations from flat ...
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older Nonoise, sorry, I missed the sarcasm. Yes, I agree about the harmonics and as I said earlier, frequency response isn't nearly everything. Unsound is correct about the noise and it even goes beyond that. Audiologists use sealed headphones with a kn...
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older Wow, now I'm going to sell all my equipment as I "can't" hear anything from 14Khz on up. But there is more to test signals than that.Nonoise, how did you determine that you couldn't hear anything higher than that. To be accurate this really needs ...
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older Unsound, I think you example of the balance in salad dressing is spot on. Not to be too mystical but, to me, balance is important in most everything. As far as others' discussion declining hearing being a problem, it has already been mentioned that...
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older Unsound, I do believe we hear things differently as our hearing diminishes. The balance of the sound would almost have to change some but, with our ears and brain being more sensitive to the midrange frequencies, it may not affect our hearing as m...
Squeezebox Touch or Sonos ZonePlayer Kal,Yes we agree. Sometimes previous posts haven't been "approved" yet. Actually I think 24/176.4 is downsampled to 24/88.2.Nice review BTW. I am also thrilled with mine. I am open to the fact that it might not be the best solution for everyone th...
Squeezebox Touch or Sonos ZonePlayer I have no experience with the Sonos but the Touch does NOT downsample anything 24/96 or lower. I would imagine that the use of an external DAC would pretty much negate MOST of the sound quality differences between the two.
Great songs and artists who virtually own them? Angel from Montgomery - Bonnie Raitt
Squeezebox hard to see? Well my Touch is about 12 feet away from my listening chair and not readable (by me) from there. It's really only an issue when I've got Pandora or Slacker playing and I want to know what's on. Sometimes I can recognize the album art but I do find...
Anyone got and album database for iPhone? Take a look at this one. I don't have any experience with it though.http://www.collectorz.com/music/
A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine Howard, I understand why some of you colleagues feel that way. The economy has hastened an already shrinking market and they (and you) are being squeezed. The irony is that there is a huge untapped market out there for all of this equipment. The w...
A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine Coming from someone who has bought some equipment new but most of it used - in a way the buyers of used equipment actually perform (indirectly) a service for the dealers. Some people will always want the latest and greatest. Does it really matter ...
Matching an amp to the Vandersteen 3a signatures I'll "third" Swampwalker's and Pubul57's McCormack suggestion. Mine make terrific music with a DNA 0.5 Deluxe.
nad left channel goes out Jean,It certainly sounds like you did the right thing and, yes, the balance control should control the sound in reverse. Just to confirm - you did only switch the cables in one place - the inputs to the amp?Dick
nad left channel goes out No apologies necessary; I should have been clearer. Switch the left and right channels either on the amp or at the outputs from the preamp (but not both - just whichever is easier to get to). The idea being that the left channel from the preamp is... |
