Lyra : World class service To be fair, cantilevers on all cartridges aren't very strong. I don't think their unwillingness to lose money because of your misfortune is grounds to label their customer service as bad. They are the (or among the) most helpful high end companies...
Any Allnic H1201 owners out there? Even tricked out, I wasn't as happy with my EARp as many of the other tube phono preamps I've used. Nice unit but not really in the league of the Allnic. The Chinook was pretty dry sounding in my system. I'd buy the Allnic in a second, although I'...
Advent 300 Repair in Los Angeles? Thanks. I took a look and contacted him.
Wet Cleaning the Stylus No one mentions LYRA SPT. I used it for years. There's something about it that actually made the records sound better vs ME to my ears. I recently switched to EMT from a Helikon and Delos and EMT recommends just a brush so that's what I do now.
Best phono cable for EMT 15? I use a Kimber TAK-Cu. I had it in a drawer when I got my WT Simplex and I was planning to upgrade but I've not been able to find a better cable (after testing a few) for my $700 budget. It could be that it's just a good match for my EMT.
Rega RP8 cartridge? I used to have a Delos and I like the EMT TSD15 better, although you'd have to research the arm for compatibility. I use it on the WT Simplex and I find it just a bit more like people playing instruments than the Delos, which I also loved.
What was your first 'hi-end' system? A lovely simple system:Kenwood LO7CAdvent Powered LoudspeakersSony PSX75 Then a friend got an LP12 and it was all over for me.
What hooked you to audio? My uncle had a big setup and I visited he and my aunt for a week when I was about 9. Played with his reel to reel and I was hooked. From then on I would pour over the ads in the Calendar section of the Sunday LA Times, ultimately saving my money f...
Remarkable New Vintage Audio Store in Austin, TX I wonder what kind of prices they have. Austin hipsters will pay an awful lot for something "cool."
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one I also had great dealings with Joe Fratus. I moved on when it got messy.
cartridge for WELL TEMPERED Amadeus Oh, I see. I also enjoyed my nuded Denon DL103 a ton-- very easy to diy. Or the Dynas are good too. I've used a 20X2L and heard a 17D3 and the match with WT is a good one.
cartridge for WELL TEMPERED Amadeus EMT TSD15 is a fantastic match for the fixed mounting length of the WT. It's so smooth, yet it can be very dynamic when the music calls for it. My favorite cartridge after years of Lyra and Dynas.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? I didn't measure capacitance or anything but after trying quite a few interconnects, I found the Purist Audio Museaus to work fantastically with my Lightspeed. Cleaner, clearer, more true.....
$5k Upgrade Yes! Listen to one of the WT tables. I think you'll be surprised at how different and pleasing the presentation is compared to your Clearaudio. I went from an Amazon turntable to just a Simplex and was WAY happier. Music sounds like people playing...
Amp for Harbeth P3ESR Not a fan of the Phonomena so I'm guessing the LFD is better... but you should really invest in a high quality phono preamp as soon as you budget allows. It could make a huge difference with the P3s because they are capable of such sweet sound. |
