SME Setup With Slotted Headshell Thanks for this. Very helpful. The Feickert has three alignment possibilities, Baerwald (B), Lofgren (L) or Stevenson (S). The only problem for me in this case is that it won't work with a Decca cartridge because that cartridge doesn't have a cant...
Cartridge Recommendations You may want to look at a Lyra Delos which will certainly better your old Shelter without changing the sonic signature too much. It's really a wonderful cartridge that's really difficult to beat.
DL-103r with a Soundsmith Retip revelation It really is. I have a Decca London on the way back from the UK with a new Paratrace and I can't wait! I think ultimately the thing besides the LC stylus that made the 103r click for me is that I'm now using a very heavy Fidelity Research headshel...
DL-103r with a Soundsmith Retip revelation I double checked with the really nice gentleman I bought it from and it turns out this one was retipped by Needle Clinic in Seattle, not Soundsmith. It got confused with another cartridge he was selling. I've got to do more research on this place ...
DL-103r with a Soundsmith Retip revelation It was super simple to align for me on my SME M2-12R but almost everything is on this arm for some reason.I think the sound just opens up enough to not be so dark but still retains the tonal strengths of the conical. It's definitely more dynamic.
Fidelity Research Headshell On SME Arm? It’s a Decca London Super Gold and it’ll only work with the SME if I add mass. Right now I have three quarters on the headshell (stuck on using blu tak) and it sounds lovely but it’s I can’t live with that forever!
Fidelity Research Headshell On SME Arm? It's the M2-12R, which has an extra counterweight for this purpose. I would try it if I had one but I'm thinking of buying it because it's 20g and the only other 20g headshell isn't as nice looking. Asthetics matter!
linn sondek tt I had a couple well tuned (by a reputable Linn dealer) LP12s. Absolutely loved them. Found that the Well Tempered Amadeus provided the same great presentation and tone without the maintenance and upgrade hassles.
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... One thing I will say, I’ve been using a new cartridge this weekend that’s particularly dynamic and I’m falling in love with the 30.1s all over again. Nice punchy bass and sparkly highs. It’s a London Decca Super Gold for you vinyl people out there...
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... Interesting that a few people have moved to JBLs and Tannoys and others with big 15" woofers. That option will be fun to investigate!
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... Thanks @timo62. The 40.1s or 40.2s are clearly where I'd go if I got a big raise but was still forced to stay in our small home. If the raise was big enough for 40s though, we are likely moving and then I'm buying original Quad ESLs. My interest h...
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... The sound of 30.1 is just more refined. It handles delicate things better. Bass is less but it is punchy. The 30.1 tweeter is a tough to beat. I'm considering trying at home a set of Raidho C1.1s that my dealer has.
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... Even though the 7es3 is less expensive than the 30.1 to my ears the 7es3 sounds better. More bass, and bigger image. The 30.1 are great speakers but sound much smaller the the 7es3. I went to my local dealer to listen to the 30.1 but ended up w...
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... What don’t you like about the 30.1 that you feel an upgrade is needed? I'm just curious!I like my 30.1s but I want more of everything! More bass for sure. More dynamics too. A bigger image. All the things you get with better speakers.
People That Have Upgraded From Harbeth 30.1s.... The minute we move and I have enough space I will buy a set of ESL57s from Kent. That’s what I had before the Harbeths but our new place is too small. I move the 30.1s in when I listen and then the go back to their resting area afterwards. |
