Down-firing Sub makes floor rattle Alex, when I was shopping for subs, Velodyne Tech Support told me that, assuming proper physical decoupling (slab, spikes, platform, etc.) due to long wavelengths there is no difference in room vibration caused by downward vs. forward radiator.
Down-firing Sub makes floor rattle An Aurelex foam platform should do the trick. This was very effective in taming the 160 yr. old sprung floors under my Vel DD-15.http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolation_gramma/sound_isolation_gramma.asp
Wherefore Belt Drive? Cabeau,I'd like to know how you got it right with "thread drive" on the VPI. I've tried this with my VPI TNT III w/flywheel & pulleys, using dental floss as well as several kinds of thread. There is an improvement in focus and energy (and appa...
Wherefore Belt Drive? Nsgarch,For what it's worth, I recently replaced the sorbothane pucks in the elephant feet of my VPI TNT III with 1" x 1.75" maple cylinders. This produces a livelier & more detailed presentation with improved bass control. The unit sits on a ...
Has anyone upgraded their preamp with V-caps? Unclejeff, I've been surprised that the more I upgrade my system, the more audible becomes even very small changes. Small incremental changes can make large perceived differences in a high calibre system. Perhaps the Law of Diminishing Returns nee...
Do high level sub inputs really sound better? Some sub users (particularly REL) claim high-level inputs more effectively blend the bass tonality of the main amp with the sub. I prefer low-level inputs, valuing tighter control of LF I'm seeing from improvements in my preamp. But the crossover ...
Has anyone upgraded their preamp with V-caps? It is .1uf in the LS and .47uf in the PS of my late model Atma MP-1 MkII. I believe Atma used other values in various vintages of this preamp. It sound f***ing great with the V-Caps.
Capacitors for BAT VK-60 Stick with .22uf and check out Atmasphere's response at the end of:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1170369408&read&h12&zzlAtmasphere&rest
Capacitors for BAT VK-60 Replacing the stock Belden low-level signal wire with better IC wire is a good idea. Raising the value of the coupling caps will exaggerate bass response, perhaps to a fault. IMO nothing is wrong with LF in the BAT other than that it could be tigh...
Tube pre with H/T Passthrough and Sub Out Dual outputs are not too important, as you can make a custom IC or buy a pig-tail splitter to connect both to your amp & the subs.
Has anyone upgraded their preamp with V-caps? I just replaced .1uf REL/Audiocap TFT coupling caps in my Atma-Sphere MP-1 LS with V-Cap TFTF. With just a few hours break-in, it's surprising how much better the V-Caps are than the REL and how big a difference there can be between one teflon cap...
Retail Music Stores Gone Sdatch, I'll bite on this one: I knew a fellow with $100K+ in Krell FPB monos, Wadia separates, Dunlavy SCV speakers, and 100" Stewart screen in a custom-built concrete bunker, who listened only to Roger Water's "Amused to Death" and Yes's "Fragile."
Capacitors for BAT VK-60 Rgurney,As Flemke mentioned, those are my comments, reflecting V-Caps at 160 hrs in a VK75SE.
