Turntable Leveling Question VPI Scout
Yes. On my TNT the platter is slightly dished, as moving the level around on the platter produces inconsistent level readings. When setting up an arm, you want a consistent reference point-- as provided by the armboard or plinth area close to the ...
Turntable Leveling Question VPI Scout
I level the TT with reference to the armboard. This ensures perfect perpendicularity of the arm as a basis for setting azimuth. Leveling at various points on the platter may produce inconsistent readings.
Joule 150A MKII versus Atma-sphere Preamps
Isn't running differential balanced the raison d'etre of Atma-Sphere amps & preamps?
Gingko vs. pucks
Decoupling platforms make a significant improvement with an unsprung TT like the Scout, even when the TT is solidly sited on a cement floor or on a wall mount. The only hypothesis I can think of to explain why a decoupling platform helps in these ...
Phono stage revealing limitations of cartridge?
Think about querying AA member Flemke about how he resolved the same problems with his EAR.
Phono stage revealing limitations of cartridge?
As reported in Stereophile's review, the 834p has very high gain of 49db in MM, 65db in MC. This in combination with a high-output cartridge like the BP, might be overloading your integrated. You could try cutting gain with a voltage divider compr...
Have you heard the latest Merlin VSM-MXe speakers?
Mark, For your long-range plan consider a third TSM for center channel. I'm using this in a HT system. FYI, Vel DD integrates well with VSM, provided you have down-reved V2.1 or below on the sub. AFAIK, newer DD sw precludes setting the crossover ...
BAT VK55 vs VK 60
Ed, while there more similarities than differences between VK60 and VK75, the VK75 has an additional PCB for power regulation that improves performance.
TVC preamps: good or bad?
Ktstrain, you obviously know something about the subject. Do you think an AVC or TVC could be designed to perform as well with a higher impedance source, such as a tube phono stage with an output impedance up to 5K?
TVC preamps: good or bad?
Atmasphere, while opinions vary on whether a passive preamp can surpass a top-notch active preamp, there seem to be a number of posters who find TVC passives preferable to resistive passives. I don't think I've ever read anyone comment that they p...
REVIEW:Raven AC-3+Davinci+Copperhead
If there are AC transformers in that amp, there is a good chance AC vibrations are being conducted through the shelf & Stillpoints. Moreover, an MDF board can be problematic however thick. I have 5" of sand(much more absorbent than MDF) undern...
REVIEW:Raven AC-3+Davinci+Copperhead
Excellent review and eclectic music collection. I tasted the sweat that went into setting up that Copperhead arm-- like changing shims under buckets in a DOHC racing engine. My only reservation concerns your confidence that wall-mounting provides ...
Silky and soft highs: product of coloration?
Atmasphere, in your opinion as a manufacturer, just how rare & expensive are those amps that have realistic treble extension & detail, but don't add artifacts of grain and edge? Is the "club" of amps that have such a favorable characterist...
Silky and soft highs: product of coloration?
Nethepill, That's reassuring & refreshing. Something is certainly wrong should an audio system make euphonic the treble sound of breaking glass or fingernails on a chalk board or a five year old playing violin. This thread got me thinking about...
Pioneer Elite DV-58AV Mods by Ric Schultz review
$1K for a $300 Superclock 4, together with a replacement analog stage and several discrete power regulators, is an excellent value. It's more useful to benchmark your modded player against good vinyl rather than a stock CDP. IMO in stock form thes...
