Periphery Record Rings
Bob, I also have the VPI black delrin & lead platter. The thing that got me interested in the brass mat is how much better brass sounds than stock delrin in the feet of my TNT. Who knows how brass will sound coupled to vinyl-- though there are...
Periphery Record Rings
Hi Bob, we seem to think along the same lines... I may try their brass mat, based upon my recent positive experiences with brass clamps and bearing housings. At 3.5 lbs. the brass mat should contribute both to flywheel effect and to resonance cont...
Why is some vinyl noisy?
In this vein a couple albums in my collection come to mind, such as George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, and several Miles Davis Mosaic box sets with 7-10 disks. With the Harrison, I try to sit long enough to work my way into Apple Jam disk thr...
Why is some vinyl noisy?
After using a 16.5 for about ten years, I finally figured out that some records with such problems require a full 1-2 minutes cleaning per side with lots of fluid before they give up their clicks & pops. Perhaps worth a try.
Sandbox-style isolation
Scott, I agree that sand moves in all dimensions at the particle level to dissipate system vibration as mechanical energy. The issue is somewhat different regarding drive train stability: Will the segmented top plates migrate or resonate in the ho...
Sandbox-style isolation
Assuming that significant mass loading has been applied to minimize shifts of the segmented top plates in the horizontal plane, the heart of the matter would seem to be that vibration is conducted through dense adjacent solids--in this case, mecha...
Sandbox-style isolation
Thom, Segmented top plates sharing a single sandbox, each segment with an alumimum angle or aluminum heat sink anchored deep into the sand. Heavy mass-loaded plinth with heavy outboard motor. Do you really believe that the top plate segments will ...
Sandbox-style isolation
AFAIK, a sandbox with a segmented top plate is the only platform that can completely isolate all the TT elements from each other, while preserving a fixed, stable geometry between outboard motor, flywheel, and plinth. Any other system will tend to...
Sandbox-style isolation
Ejlif, Did you ever try combining coupling and decoupling by placing the inner tube or large springs underneath the sandbox? IME this strategy is very effective (particularly with TT), as is cutting up the sandbox top plate to isolate each compone...
Review: Trans-fi Terminator II Tonearm
Unfortunately I have not heard other linear arms; I have only compared Terminator to the two respected arms that I use personally and refer to in the review. It is difficult to unpack all the variables in a system. However, in the course of assess...
best resistors
Each lead of a Texas Components/Nude Vishay resistor is 1.5" long. Using needle nose pliers, the two leads can be bent 90 degrees to achieve 3.25" total span-- pretty much the same as any other radial-lead resistor.
Cleaning cd lens ?
Acetone attacks some plastics such as plexiglas. I'd be careful with that, as the lens is plastic. I use a lite swab of windex.
VPI Scoutmaster static
Try rerouting ICs downstream of the phono stage and preamp to be sure they avoid AC or other interference. Though it seems improbable, this can sometimes causes problems with noise from phono source.
What to improve? all suggestions are welcomed
The answer to obtaining tighter more extended bass with improved dynamics is V-Cap TFTF teflon caps in lieu of the four stock .22uf/630V Jensen aluminum PIO coupling caps in VK-60. This will also improve HF resolution and neutrality across FR. Thi...
John Hiatt - Same Old Man
To me this album was a return to form for Haitt and one of the best of '08-- straight, honest & completely free of the histrionics & silliness that weaken some of his later work. Also excellent sonically on vinyl-- particularly considering...
