Any U2 Fans Here?
Don't know about the CD, but the double vinyl rocks with excellent SQ. And "Unknown Caller" might be the song of the decade.
Experience w/ Trans-Fi Auio Terminator Tone Arm?
I am the alleged lone gunman of record above. The Terminator is an excellent arm that easily surpassed a Graham 1.5tc & SME IV on my modded VPI TNT. It takes a bit of tweeking if this is your first experience with a linear arm, as well as emai...
Any love for the new Elvis Costello?
It's full of poised, unfrenetic arrangements using mostly acoustic instruments. Good SQ on double vinyl. Very refreshing with obvious T-Bone influences.
Reference Audio Mods to Meridian 508-24?
I know Kyle and have implemented his parts and ideas in my Sony. As I understand his approach, regardless of CDP he focuses in several areas that are likely to improve any digital source: (1) replace clock with latest generation Audiocom Ultra- or...
Any Zorn fans?
I caught on to him with Naked City and Spillane, and over the years have stayed mostly with the more accessible Filmworks series and almost anything with Marc Ribot. Filmworks Anthology 1986-2005 is a good introduction to these sounds. My favorite...
Stylus just falls off?
I have no personal experience on this, but the several posts I have read over the years about diamonds falling off all cited VDH cartridges.
Byrds - untitled Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab
Com'on, Bill. It's the Byrds, not Grand Funk Live!
Byrds - untitled Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab
If for nothing else you need Untitled for Chestnut Mare, Mr. Spaceman, and 8 Miles High. The Sundazed vinyl is all tasty, full of rarities, and well-pressed, ex: Preflyte Sessions, Sanctuary II, IV, Mr. Tambourine Man.
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
If space allows, consider building an all film PS with Mundorf polyprop Tubecaps. I've been breaking in several pairs in my Atma preamp-- and they sound great.
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
As if these responses are not confusing enough, I'll add my own experiences with transformer coupling. I use a LF-frequency optimized Jensen Isomax between a balanced preamp and a sub plate amp-- which does a great job. On the other hand, the Jens...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
I recently heard a demo of Grand Veena presented by the President of Ref 3A at a local audio club. Beautiful treble & midrange-- in those sections I don't think they use any crossover at all. He mentioned that he uses Mundorf-- probably just f...
Audio Research amps - balanced & non
Of course there are transformers and there are transformers. Galvanic isolation is a good thing, as is balanced operation--both enabled by coupling transformers. But design & quality vary.
Shakti Stones Do they actuall work guys.
I was browsing through(my father's!) MSEE tube textbooks from the early 1950s and came across a statement that a block of ferrous material placed on top of a transformer improves electromagnetic coupling between the windings. This explains the old...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
I don't have enough experience with inductors to know which types tend to cause interference. However, the large Alphacore air-core inductors that I'm using as HF analog filters in my CDP, were intially a bear in terms of EMI fireworks. The proble...
Moving Up the ARC Chain: Some Observations
John, Pleased to read your positive opinion of PH-2. I've owned one since new that I've gradually modified over the years. At the time of purchase I considered both PH-2 and then-new PH-3, and was impressed by how much better the PH-2 sounded. Muc...
